Penetration is much less of an issue with thin walls and tube mitres than blowing through is. It's pretty obvious if you haven't.
Framebuilders group is kicking off at the moment between ti builders over whether fusion passing is beneficial or detrimental. So little social skills so much argon used...

Haven't been on this thread for a couple of days and it's already talking about hardon and penetration...where have I been??
Btw Matt, I sent Verity and Caren an email (on the isen one) with regards to make sure my frame (number 14) is made for Di2 only (no cable stops) but haven't received any answer/confirmation.

Sorry, theyve been mental getting ready for the next launch and website update. I have been told and it will be di2 only.

the smooth transitions of higher amps
Splatter's not an issue with moar amps?
Or is that only MIG?
-
• #583
Thanks much appreciated!
-
• #584
Yeah that's mig. If you're splattering then something has gone really wrong with this application.
-
• #585
I've hardly done any mig, I need to spent a bit of time with it, as tig is really stupid for a load of non bike related stuff that I've ended up doing. How much do you get to do?

How much do you get to do?
I've only done it at college, if that's what you mean.
As you're competent with a stick, then a wire feed unit would be a walk in the park for you.
With a +5mm piece in the flat or horizontal positions you can turn everything up and use spray transfer mode, which is a doddle.

I spend a lot of time on the internet looking at welding stuff, and some of the stuff people pull off with mig is just astonishing.

This is the rough idea for the seat tube notch fixture. I'm not going to be buying an anvil one or anything, I can't see the point for such a defined cut, and I can make one for a fraction of the cost. Something went wrong with the tube holder in the render, bolts have disappeared and a few faces are fucked but you get the idea. The phase guide rotates around the t slot to allow for different head angles, and can slide along the t slot to accommodate different length tubes. Angle will be set by rotating machine vice that it will be clamped to.
Will order bits tomorrow, but should be quick and easy. Dependent on cost may just make the long support from ss right angle, we shall see.

Many moons ago I worked in a high end specialist machine shopaking down hole equipment for the oil industry. All the welders had amazing tans. They wore full face masks to avoid looking like reverse racoons. /csb

are you hair-less?

maybe it's Caren foot...

I always wear a sweat shirt, but for some reason never thought it could effect my bare legs. As I'm an idiot.
I have been meaning to get some t shirts made again, so think I'll get some long sleeve 'welding addition' ones made at the same time.

Can you not see hair? I mean I'm not as hirsute as you, but clearly there is some foliage.

Caren just responded with 'pukesoncock.gif'.
Incidentally caren is going to be on wimmins hour next week, as part of the woman's hour craft prize.
I'd like to know why there is no mens hour? Feminazis have taken over, the ship is afloat a sea of estrogen, sugar and spice and all things nice! Save yourselves! you'll be sent to Mars as baby production componentry it's coming sheep! https://youtu.be/9JRLCBb7qK8
It's taken a while to get to an acceptable standard, it would have been easier with the lower amp method, but coming from fillet brazing I really like the smooth transitions of higher amps..
