except for some of the road surfaces! (especially Ginns Rd)

Yeah, a bit Paris-Roubaix along that stretch. The roads just into Essex (Manuden/Clavering) are much nicer than dogshit Herts lanes.
Or... you could head left at Widford, then right at Chequers Inn towards Babbs Green, up to Bakers End, Barwick ford, up Barwick Road and across the A120 to Puckeridge then straight up from there through Dassells up the B1368?

Amazing bike & tidy food ;)

Thank you. Always good to have tidy food. Even better to have one of the most comfortable bikes ever built.

Huge respect for doing this, i imagine that in many regards this will be mentally tougher than things like the tcr where there is an end goal, and getting up from a bivvy bag to sitting on a bike all day isn't that great a differential, but getting up from a comfy bed, ignoring the prospect of a few hours of Jeremy Kyle and real food will be quite a wrench some days! Will be watching with interest! Bon chance!

If anyone wants to donate some dosh quickly and easily it can be done (as well as through the JustGiving site in the normal way) by Text. Simply text
CLIV60 £10
To
70070
Obviously the £10 can be replaced with a larger figure or, if you wish, a smaller one. Any donation, however small, is most welcome and will spur me forward.
Thank you

Well done Clive, great first day.
If you want a slightly nicer entry to Cambridge, come off the DNA path and head towards the hospital as you did, but turn left over the guided busway bridge before you hit the roundabout. Go right at the end and you're on a cycleway straight to the station. It's labelled as the guided busway on maps.

Nice! Rest up well and continue tomorrow. Eat. Ride. Sleep. Repeat etc

Very nice machine you're using, understated and classy - hope it goes really well and gets easier the deeper you get into it.

Strong start, Clive. Was a tough day out there today with that wind, and starting in the rain is never easy.

So bloody windy, can't be easy.
EPO may be the only solution.
