Sprucing up an old Btwin triban as a starter road bike. Went to retape the bars and found the shifters attached like this which makes it bloody hard to get the bar tape around. Trying to tape over it makes it look like shite.
Could just wrap around and just skip that spot. But there will be a black metal thing poking out.
Does anyone have a work around?
edit: it's an old 7 speed sora shifter...replace the clamps with these? anything cheaper?

This is the cheapest from SJS: "Adjustable length to fit most standard bikes".

thanks chaps.
@Scilly.Suffolk that looks promising.

Are you sure the regular clamps you linked to will fit? If so, go for it. What you have now looks shit.

anything cheaper?
You need to take the shifter off and have a look at what fits: the clamps for different groups vary slightly.
Being an old part, you might have to repurpose something other than Sora.

Just by eye-ing it all I don't think they would fit. . BUT! I have a newer broken tiagra brifter that I can take the clamp from and test it out...

Gumwall tires on an mtb. Yay or nay? Silver frame & rims, black components & forks.

been wondering the same thing...and found this: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/skinwalls-on-a-full-susopinions-please
But I've found it hard to find good gumwall 650b MTB tyres -- what are your options?

Sorry 26" wheels, should have said. I ordered schwalbe table tops in black but the shop has just told me they're out of stock and would I like gumwalls instead.

• #116111
I think gumwalls look great on silver frames...

Pretty sure I have spares in the parts box.

Haha silver frame and bits. Was just trying to give you an idea of looks.
I WON'T BOTHER AGAIN -

Haha, thanks! Didn't see the bike pic first. Anyway I just found the same tires in black on sale at crc so cancelled them with the other shop.

Argh! Right after ordering a tapered alu fork and HS to suit, a straight steerer salsa cromoto pops up on retrobike. Might buy both and see how I like them. At least there's a workaround for the crown race on the straight forks if so.

Got most of it working now. Just need to get the pads and brakes set up. An maybe some more shiny-shiny bits to clamp on the frame.
Needs space, needs my lo pro in the classifieds gone. -

Just picked this up, super happy. Planning on turning it into something trail-oriented. First up is a clutch derailleur and a single narrow-wide ring up front. Also needs new, and bigger, tires and a longer seatpost as this one is at maximum extension according to the seller but I need a couple of cm's more.

What diameter post does it take? I've got a spare 400x31.6 which is a couple cm short for me. Not Van N though.

Yay. My Inbred in now less horrid looking

30.9, should be fun finding one. Will probably end up with a Thomson.

Picked this up for peanuts. Plan is for a beater/town bike. Will put some swept back bars, mudguards and a rack on it too. Maybe squeeze in some 28mm tyres

VO do a silver chainguard. Have it on my wife's bike, she hasn't complained about oily trousers.
