• I just want ballpark idea of if it's going to be faster or slower than tyres and tubes at X psi.

I guess you can run them lower because there's no pinch flat risk, but do I want to is my question?

  • I run my Schwalbe Pro One tubeless at 80 PSI. They do lose pressure during the week (i.e. between weekend rides). I'd say somewhere between 15 and 20 PSI. I've not checked on a daily basis. They're 28s.

  • So not as bad as latex tubes but worse than butyl. Cheers.

  • I pumped my tubeless pro ones 3 weeks ago .. havent lost a single PSI ..

  • Roller drum Crr from testing won't translate to real world Crr

bicyclerollingresistance.com has diamond plate on the drum surface, so it's probably closer than tests using smooth drums.

  • Depends on the tyres, G-Ones went on with no fuss at all, and held pressure perfectly... No different to standard tubes.

Compass on the other hand have super thin sidewalls and air leaks out at a ridiculous rate - worse than latex.

  • Is it quick though?

Nothing is quick with me pedalling. If you're that bothered about 2W, you really need to do your own field testing on representative surfaces.

  • should be faster because there's no tube/tyre interface to use up energy.

  • Guess it depends on rim and how much sealant you use as to any losses.

  • I don't even want to use tubeless I just want to make sure all the faff isn't going to make other things worse.

  • But the tyres are stiffer so they cancel out (at least compared to latex tubes, I think they beat butyl tubes)

  • Not a direct comparison as they're not the exact same tyre, but you get the idea.

  • Best place to get a Pro One?

I take it the One is a shitter version of the Pro One.

  • You're right. The Pro's are a newer version.

Usually Bike-24 is the cheapest but Wiggle and Chainreaction both have them on sale at the moment.

It might be worth looking at the IRC tyres that @Mu_Mu posted about earlier, I've only heard good things about them, @cycleclinic sells them.

  • I definitely have 10ml more sealant than required .. I travelled with them too; deflated to 20psi-ish and inflated again when landed. Making them sit on HED Ardennes Plus rim was piece of piss, generic floor pump and soapy water, popped in first go. I havent seen any performance benefit from going tubeless as I never punctured before and I can't tell rolling resistance diff either. YMMV.

  • 28 is out of stock. I guess I could test with the 25mm?

  • If you can fit 28, go 28.

    Mantel has stock.

  • I havent seen any performance benefit from going tubeless as I never punctured before and I can't tell rolling resistance diff either.

Yeah this. Road tubeless is compelling if you puncture a lot. Otherwise...not so much.

  • I havent seen any performance benefit from going tubeless as I never punctured before and I can't tell rolling resistance diff either.

I've said it before but the main benefit I've found is knowing puncture are just so much harder to get, meaning you can ride very quick tyres when you would normally need to compromise on speed/weight/puncture resistance.

If you never got punctures on racing tyres that roll as nice as Schwalbe Pro One's or Vittoria Corsa G+ and the like, then cool. But personally I had to stop riding nice tyres out in the lanes because the punctures were taking the fun out of it all.

  • I think I still have two brand new 28c Pro Ones in the cupboard which you can have for 50 quid. I bought a spare pair but ended up having such a shit time with them that I moved to IRC.

  • 25's usually measure up as 28 on modern rims anyway.

  • 28 is out of stock. I guess I could test with the 25mm?

They come up quite big, the 25s are actually 28mm wide on my DT R24s

  • yeah I was on G+ and Latex inners .. never punctured, 4,000 km plus. Was due a new set of tyres and I thought why not.

  • I used some brand new Corsa G+ and got puncture on the first ride about 2 miles in. I've got another set that go to/from Herne Hill every week without issue but I'm definitely more cautious with them now.
