  • No, you are quite right- that the chap is a huge fan of a slave owning General in the Confederate Army who is now lionised exclusively by white supremacists, combined with being a retired black cab driver in his 60's gives us precious little to go on in making any sort of preliminary judgement.

I was shocked when he started defending Nazis- no clues at all that he had any hint of that from what was known of him before.

  • "Not so fun?"
    How old are you?

Well I don't hate to agree with you, or to credit your highlighting of others' extreme posts - I'm working on this new concept where I appreciate people disagree with me on things, but I deal with it without flailing my arms in the air and creating a voodoo doll of them and stabbing it repeatedly...

I agree with basically everything you just typed (last paragraph - spot on)
The one thing I disagree with is the naivety of thinking the 'Trump clown' in the video is innocently just a clown...that happens to look like Donald Trump. I don't buy that just like you don't buy my original questioning.

  • On this whole left/right thing...

Diane Abbot gets massive abuse, a lot of sexist and racist. She's Labour, so technically left. I just don't buy the whole narrative that abuse on twitter or misrepresentation of people's views is a left VS right, or right VS left issue.

The type of abuse seems to differ a bit, but the origin is the same "you have different views, you are a BAD person".

I think it's more helpful to properly define and grade abuse, and also take into account that some people never ever use bad words, but will quite happily fuck people over in subtle manners. (Spence for example) so perhaps the whole abuse discussion is rather a sideline to distract us all, and it's more useful to discuss what practical effects actions have.

Some smoothtalker that is so not racist/xenophobic but still brings in laws that mostly screw immigrants/minorities in my book is worse than some random person mouthing off with little power. From those you get some mealy mouthed "oh sorry we didn't do correct assessments" in a world where it's clear for anyone with internet and a bit of a brain it was all rather predictable, and it's just a fudge to say "they didn't know"*

Trump is unfortunately a bit of both, both stupid talk AND stupid actions, the Nazi's/fascists take it a bit further and add personal violence on top of all the twitter abuse and legal changes they want.

But nobody seems to agree on where the line needs to be drawn atm.

*sometimes it's genuinely accidental, but I lately count the home office and Rudd/May firmly in this category. They could have seen all the xenophobia coming after Brexit and do nothing to stop it.

  • My post was about the linking of the CNN train image here and whether anybody here sees, shares, discusses or even distances themselves from any of the extreme examples provided when it's aimed at Trump, at Trump's supporters.

I'd image if one of the world leaders retweeted such a tweet then it would also get posted here. The train/cnn image was posted, not so much because of the content, but the fact Trump retweeted it.

  • I rarely tend to see the left's often questionable and extreme actions discussed and held to account in establishment media, or even here, as much as I do the right's

    Confirmation bias on your part.

  • it's all gone a bit

  • I rarely tend to see the left's often questionable and extreme actions discussed and held to account in establishment media, or even here, as much as I do the right's

The left is only reacting to the right, and the right are wankers

  • There's a bit of a difference between "shoot the president" and "oppress all people in minorities & outgroups & those that don't conform to a supremacist ideal".

  • And since when did opposing fascism / supremacy / far right extremism become the preserve of "the left".

In the US, in particular, which is anything but left in any part of its society.

    What a ridiculous facile notion.

  • This is the bit I have been struggling with out of the whole narrative since Charlottesville

  • 'Left' in this context in anyone opposing the right, come on

  • ...where "the right" has become characterised by swastika waving and race baiting. if you're not against it, you're for it.

  • No CNN that is not correct

  • Just trying to think of all the extra rights I need

  • Got arrested and fined once for pissing up the side of a local pram. Wasn't even any babies in it! Thanks jews/Obama!

  • This presidency has the best ratings ever. That I can tell you.

  • Edit: image upload fail. link to original tweet below

  • Ah, useful clarification. Cheers. Was just trying to spread some Trump hate :)

  • of a local pram

Just wondering how you knew it was a local pram?

  • Thats ok. I think the clarification from them also does that anyway. the more people that walk away from providing those racist motherfuckers a service the better.

  • That account is a parody...

    Bikeshare is the scheme.

  • i'm having that for face book thanks
