47 Metres Down - shark film, not that good.
2 lasses go shark viewing in a metal cage, cage ends up on the bottom of the ocean (47 metres down), they need to get out before their oxygen runs out.
Shit happens. -

GiTS, much better than its reviews suggested - decent visuals, great story, occasional wooden acting (although I suspect this was down to the bafflingly pants dialogue). I wonder if it was down to executive producers not wanting it to be too confusing, and had it simplified to stupidity.
Days of Heaven - absolutely wonderful. Watched it the other day, made the news of Sam Shepherd's passing all the more poignant.
Serpico - 70s cop greatness. Pure Pacino joy.

Hounds of Love. Low budget rom-com from Australia about an awkward threesome. Fantastic date night movie. a family favourite in the making.

Also watched The Rover again last night. A lot bleaker than I remembered. Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson both absolutely stellar. Definitely worth a watch (and rewatch).

Zoe Heller is confused why people think Wonder Woman is so feminist

Him off Everybody Loves Raymond plays the father and is getting really good reviews. Nobody knew he was such a good straight actor cos his sitcom's shit.

I read absolutely nothing about Dunkirk beforehand, and left it feeling pretty underwhelmed. Great cinematography, soundtrack, sound design, etc.
But, I just didn't connect with any of the characters. I just didn't get any depth from them, I know it's meant to be bleak but I didn't even get that feeling of hopelessness from them. Really can't see why it's being hailed as a masterpiece.

Finally watched Arrival.
It's not bad, but not spectacular. It doesn't help that I recognise elements from interstellar and gravity.
It's a little too bad I'm not more enthusiastic as the aliens / language bits where well done. It's worth a watch I felt the resolution let it down a bit.
The ultimate aliens and language movie for me is Tarkovski's Solaris, it's very very difficult though...no explanations no why.

Get Out. So shit....

I'll give it a watch, I'm an easy sell for a film with a ton of neon and an 80s soundtrack.

Get Out. So shit....
Hehe, yeah - it was like a really shit episode of Black Mirror

Wanted to love Dunkirk as spitfire fan bouy but the grating sound score and nostalgic filter took me back to painful 70s TV dramas. It was like Nolan was fucking around with art house and played the whole thing at 33rpm.

On The Waterfront - absolutely great, sharp dialogue, classic Brando, cracking story.
Dances with Wolves - shit the bed it's 4 hours long. Lovely story that wanders along. Probably a bit naff but I enjoyed it.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - bit of a letdown that doesn't really go anywhere, felt like it lacked substance.
Dredd (or whatever it's called) - absolute tosh, that looks cheap. Don't go in for the b-movie thing I must admit.

That's a particularly low hurdle...

I'm getting a bit tired of the sassy fast talking know it all friend trope (Get Out)

Dunkirk - meh.....

This, they could have just played Public broadcasting service first album over the top.

indeed - could have based the entire movie around the Spitfires & 3 pilots IMHO and forget the queue jumping silent soldiers and badly acted "old war man takes to boat" meh-ness.
What a movie...
