  • I'm involved in organising a party in November and we've got the choice of two venues. The almost perfect venue doesn't have a lift and our guest of honour is in a wheelchair. How easy is it to find 4 fit people who can carry the lady in her wheelchair up the stairs, hang around for two hours and then carry the lady in the wheelchair down the stairs again?

  • Usually pretty easy, but does the lady mind being carried by strangers? One of my university classmates used a chair and our old building had lifts that kept breaking down. He would not let us carry him and his chair for the first couple of months.

  • If there's nothing wrong with the other venue, I'd go with that, unless the wheelchair user can be involved at this stage and give a preference. It's a bit weird being carried. But perhaps some people don't mind, and perhaps the almost perfect venue is lovely in other ways. Also are you sure no one else on the guest list has access needs?

  • If the guest of honour is in a wheelchair and the venue doesn't have wheelchair access I'd say that's probably not the right venue.
