  • Hey. Following on from a suggestion by @PhilDAS about having some LFGSS CC rides, I thought I'd see who would be down for some informal social riding). Nothing set in stone, but let's just gauge how much interest.

    The list so far:
    @ShutUpBlud
    @PhilDAS
    @Jules

    Register your interest, and we can work something out, if this is something that people want to do!

    Cheers :)

  • Me and @PhilDAS are thinking of going for a ride on Sunday if anyone wants to join?

  • I might down

  • Maybe change the thread name to LFGSSCC Club Ride or similar

  • Most cycling clubs have club training and then social rides at a pace where you are not unable to talk.

  • I'll join if that's cool

  • The only reason why I didn't call it that is because I didn't know whether I'd have the right to call something that I/we organise, a LFGSS CC ride. I'll change it if there's any reason why I shouldn't

  • Me and jules were definitely planning on going on a more "social" ride. Doing a nice distance, 60k or more but at an easy pace, chatting and just having fun.
    But would like it to be calm and sensible, road bikes, no rljs, no brklss installed etc

  • Social paces are fun. Whereabouts do you guys/gals go?

  • Open to suggestions. We usually head South West into Surrey.

  • Someone with a route or good at navigation would be good to lead.
    I've never lead a ride and don't use garmin or whatever so I'd rather someone took the responsibility haha

  • I don't even have a road bike right now fuck

  • Join the TNRC rides when they do ones to the west of London.

    You'll learn some good routes and can pick @middleofnowhere 's brains on how to organise rides.

  • This sounds like a cool idea and the boss @Velocio can set me right if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure this is the sort of thing that LFGSSCC was set up to do. So as long as he is happy with you using the name I can't see why this shouldn't take off.

    We do these midweek evening rides every other Thursday (and sometime more often). We have our little subsection of the forum here...
    https://www.lfgss.com/microcosms/573/
    You are all welcome to join us on a ride (read the ride protocol first) but perhaps more useful is the little ride database we have there. They are all 30-40 mile rides a short train ride out of London which gives you the chance to dive straight into the lanes while the stronger riders have the option to ride out and back to up their mileage.

    Whichever way it goes just throw up a list, find someone with a Garmin, download a route and head for the lanes, what could possibly go wrong?

  • What's the verdict on Strava Route Planner? Surely, phone mount + preset Strava route should work just fine.

    Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

  • I've used a Strava route but had it on my Wahoo. Seemed fine but I wasn't so keen on not being able to edit the route.

  • Haven't used Strava Route Planner but I do navigate off my phone. I use OsmAnd on Android which is not the most user friendly but allows you to upload GPX routes to follow. I rely on voice directions but a bar mount would be fine so long as your phone battery is up to the job. I also frequently miss turns and get lost, it's all part of the fun.

  • Don't people only get lost when Ludwig is involved?

  • People will get lost if I'm involved. Luckily I just picked up a phone mount for my bike, so may be more inclined to actually follow directions

  • I'd be interested in club rides fixed/road if someone is taking names.

  • Let's start taking names. I don't know if I'll organise anything, but I'd be in for a Fixed gear ride (or fixed gear friendly ride) before I get a roadie built up. Let's start a list, shall we? Or, I'll just carry on from the list started above:

  • ShutUpBlud
    PhilDAS
    Jules
    Kuss
    AlphaOmega

  • ShutUpBlud
    PhilDAS
    Jules
    Kuss
    AlphaOmega
    On1

    make it happen people!

  • Let's make this happen. I now have a roadie, so I'm down for whatever rides people want to do.

    I was wondering if anyone was down for Richmond laps?

  • Never ridden Richmond so I'm game, lets try and set a date before the weather gets shocking!
