  • Shit picture, but the wheel looks lovely on the Mash. May not stay on there though - don't want to fuck the wheel. I'll get a nicer photo later in good lighting

  • What's the disc then? Tub or clincher?

I've been running tubs on my dailies for a while now. There are plenty of tough tubs out there, you just need to pick the ones that are conventional rubber eg Conti Giro, Tufo S33. Then they make perfectly good everyday tyres and you can skid about on them no problem. You carry a can of Pitstop instead of a tube. Keep another tub wheel at home that you can swap out - but I do this for my commuter for hassle free changes with clinchers anyway.

  • Re: Stripping threads... have you considered white industries hubs?

  • I have - and that (or a disc hub) is what will be going on this bike if I don't trust myself on the disc, which I think will be the case. I think I should be fine, since it's a good quality hub, and I'll put the cog on properly, with the right tools, and using a decent cog and lockring.

  • It's tubular, and I was about to ask for recommendations on tough tubs. I was looking at the Tufos, but wasn't 100% sure. What would you (or anyone else here) recommend?

At the moment, there's a Conti Competition on there, and I don't think it's wise to skid that about. Also - glue or tape? I was leaning towards tape.

    Glue. Always glue.
Conti Competition is probably a bit less durable if you intend to skid a lot... but then, that's slave. so, yea.

  • Why glue? Is there any difference in ease of tyre change?

  • From experience I find a tub easier to change with tape. However I believe that glue is alot more secure for keeping the tyre on the rim - especially when skidding.

  • Edit: I was drunk when I posted this. Tufo S33 because tough and skid them till they smoke and fuck the snotty comments. Tub Tape because all the easy.

  • The frame and front wheel are looking pretty slave. Handlebar cockpit choice needs more attention, that is where the battle is won or lost.

  • I've already got some Easton EA70 risers on the way. Thoughts?

  • Can't go wrong with a riser. Need to make sure the stem angle is right as with the length being 20% of the DT length. Absolutely crucial.

  • Woah - I didn't quite understand this. Could you elaborate?

The stem is a Zipp Service Course SL 90mm/17deg

    I have a 61cm downtube. Does that mean I should have a 120mm stem?

  • 90mm/17deg

    Too short get longer...straightup

  • ^ this. The rule has a firm footing in bike fit mechanics and is nothing to do with purely aesthetic reasons. You should have a 122mm stem but 120 will suffice.

  • I only went for 90mm because I've ranged from 70mm to 115mm on my current bike, to find out what I like. I currently have a 105mm on there, and it's nice, but the handling implications are a bit much for me. I feel that it would be the same, if I had a 120mm - the handling would suffer too adversely to my riding experience. I've found that 90-105mm feels best for me.

I am willing to try other lengths out, though. If I've said anything stupid, please do call me out on it, too.

  • Try that 90 if you feel something weird while riding it absolutely get longer stem....

Mine is small but i used 110mm #slamthatstem with enough amount of seatpost i still feel that the stem is short but due to that slam it fit like tight rubber to me...

  • Anything that I should know about the stem angle?

  • Just picked up a Zipp Service Course SL seatpost from @davog. It will match my stem nicely - being sent over now from @Creek_Tebsin. I've also ordered some Easton EA70 rider bars, and Easton lock-on grips. All that I need now is a saddle, and cranks.

  • Decided to snap up a Prologo Kappa Evo saddle from Planet X, since they are on sale, and I quite like the saddle, besides that. Stem arrived today. Will post a photo when bars and grips arrive!

Now it's just cranks to get - hopefully I can sell my Planet X for cash to fund nice cranks! Rotors are looking like the way to go, at the moment!

  • My black sug75 170 needs it

  • You selling the Sugs?

  • True, but im in need a 165 also

  • Anyway, I'm thinking of chucking Rotors on the Cinelli, when my Planet X sells. Need those max HHSB points

  • Fair enough..

    I think @tomsvoboda have a set recently
