I have a similar but sort of opposite problem. I mix in the living room mainly on headphones and check stuff with both sets of monitors at low volume but with the DT-880 open back headphones and A5's found I was letting too much previously undetected sub-100hz get through so when I reference checked stuff on earbuds it was way too bassy!
i did some mastering at D+M in berlin and they were quite impressed by the adams bottom end on 70K genelecs so much so that the record store downstairs hardwax called to complain about the noise lol . but that was mixed in a previous studio (living room) space
