Richard Spencer, you know... No? The Nazi that got punched and the whole world laughed.

I did indeed laugh, and thanks for the link.

I won't link to it, but there's a disgraceful article in a certain newspaper 'edited' by a desperate failed politician somewhere that takes a rather different angle than the above.

Went there in April and most restaurants had people from London working in them. They even greet you in English, it's weird.

Brakless is the actual front page headline of The Sun tomorrow
-
• #47083
I think this is the first time that brakeless fixed gear has been highlighted in such a way.
Most people (and the police) probably wouldn't have noticed before but I bet they're looking out now.

Is he a member here?
Quick reminder to everyone to be careful on here/on twitter re sub judice i.e. anything that could influence a jury either way.

Yes and comments he made here are being used in court. Hence why we shouldn't discuss the case on the forum.

Once again, we don't know that yet. He commented elsewhere in the immediate wake of the incident, to much the same effect, so these may be the comments being used.
As I said above, I think it's better not to discuss this so as not to jeopardise his trial.
@Velocio will have a better grasp of the situation and be able to give advice as to which comments are suitable and which ones should probably be deleted.

Don't click it if you don't want to read wanker racist bile, but it answers your question.

My comments on the previous page just described the legal arguments in the prosecution's case and were phrased as such - talking about whether anything counts or not is way over the legal line. There are implications in the legal arguments that we need to be aware of, though - it's basically an argument that tends towards strict liability if you don't have a front brake.

Without wanting to get into a discussion about the actual event, I do sort of wish people wouldn't draw parallels in relation to sentencing for motorists hitting cyclists. It creates a very "them" and "us" narrative. Neither is sentencing in relation to one, dependent on the other, and it carries a whiff of double-standards given the general forum consensus against victim blaming.
While I'm happy not to discuss the ins and outs, I fail to see any issue with commenting about it. People regularly comment on trials. Just because some of his posts from here or anywhere else may be used doesn't somehow magic up a danger of people's opinions prejudicing the trial any more than in other cases.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/aug/14/cyclist-charlie-alliston-killed-pedestrian-blamed-crash-kim-briggs-court-told his online comments on an internet forum I think we know which one and his tweets are being used to build up image of a reckless thrill seeker.

I'm pretty sure Velocio has recently mentioned that he's supplied copies of threads/comments to the police but that may have been for something else.
-
• #47094
There's no evidence that he made the comments, somebody made some comments on here proporting to be the cyclist involved.
Just look at those front pages, fair trail my arse.
-
• #47095
Contact his defence and suggest he tries claiming he never made those comments. Though the coincidence of someone called charliefuckinga making them is interesting.

I'm sure their be looking into the inextricable link between the IP address and the electronic devices and the accused but until that link has been been made it's fair to say there is a reasonable doubt.

I'd only be echoing all previous comments on here if I said anything.
The reason why we're apprehensive about this here is for reasons that don't apply to STW. It's really for the best if we keep discussions to a minimum.
