A short trip in Southern Norway

Posted on
  • Hi, I'm planning a short non-cycling trip (5-6 days) in Southern Norway soon.

I was thinking a couple of days in Stavanger, a couple of days in Bergen (ferry + railway to Oslo, of course), a day in Oslo and a day in Stockholm (S), as I'm likely to fly back from there.

Any tips & tricks? Namely, what's the weather like at the end of August?

    Thanks.

  • Have been in the region by car only, but the roads were great for cycling all around Stavanger.
Lysefjord is definitely worth a visit - take the ferry along the fjord or climb up to Preikestolen.

Been there end of July / early August. Weather was great and warm, but one day a bit wet and misty in the higher altitudes.

If you feel crazy you can take the road up from the end of the Lysefjord at Lysebotn.
There was a very scenic route from up there back to Stavanger too.

  • Thanks. I forgot to mention I'm going on a non-cycling holiday, though I know about that road and would love to ride on it... hmmm :-).

  • Just a note, I'm fairly certain you can't ride on that road apart from on specified days. Me and my GF drove from Tonsberg (near Oslo) to Stavanger and back last year. If you can do Priekostolen then you definitely should.
