• well, he has 14 working days to send it back apparently, so as long as you upload a postage label to the ebay system he can't claim you haven't co-operated and they can follow the tracking info.

I'd maybe ring ebay to make them aware of the lack of co-operation now too just to make it clear you're being reasonable in the face of a difficult buyer and you don't know what to do...

    Shite and stressful tho-good luck!

  • If you dig into this the line they spin is that the delay is down to money laundering checks. Alternatively they will blame the banks or the card schemes but as there's no real transparency it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

  • Someone got access to my eBay account yesterday and started fake selling stuff.

Sorted in 5 mins on the phone, but how did they do that?

  • Do you use the same pw for other sites/email account?

  • Not that I can think of. Are email accounts somehow vulnerable to password snatching?

  • Not really, but a number of large scale hacks against the likes of dropbox, linkedin, etc, means that any shared passwords are vulnerable.

    Worth a look: https://haveibeenpwned.com/

  • Purchased a Garmin described as in excellent condition. Item arrives and clearly has some scratches and marks on the screen. Scratches have little effect on the Garmin in use, but it's certainly not what I'd describe as excellent condition.

I'm off on a tour the following week so make do whilst getting in touch with the seller to let him know the issue. He asks what can be done and I suggest a small partial refund of £15. No response from seller in about a month. Reasonable to leave neutral feedback in that situation or should I just have returned the item when it arrived if I was unhappy?

  • Open a case: it gives you the option of returning or claiming a partial refund.

  • Any tips on making an offer on an eBay bike? Ive never successfully bought anything without paying full price or end up not bothering.
Seller is asking pretty much 10% off RRP for bike but its a limited edition model
Asked a couple of questions, its local and seller wants cash.
Want but have other options if no budge on price

  • Ask to go and see them, offer to pay cash.

  • Yes, he's insisting that in the listing. Think I'll go with what I am prepared to pay then look elsewhere.

  • So I upped my top price by 8% and now still 10% below valuation. I think I should stop now. But its also 20% advertised price.

  • Just won my case last night. I was totally expecting to get shafted by eBay, but they have come through so fair play.

I had zero contact from the buyer for over a month until he marked the return as posted. He ignored the courier i paid for saying he was on holiday so couldn't do anything for 3 weeks. I then waited two weeks for it to turn up. I eventually opened a case yesterday morning and it was closed by the evening.

Anyway i have my money back, great stuff. Faith restored.

Be weary of 'Campagnolovintage' on eBay. He is a total ass hat.

  • Ordered a pair of Brooks running shoes from an ebay business seller after trying on a couple of different model Brooks trainers in a shop (none of the sale ones were the right size).

The correct size when trying on with sports socks was 7.5 E (ie a wide atypical size), so I bought the same size online.

They've arrived and they are too long and too narrow. Usually I'd chalk it up to experience, but even being generous with possible differences in models these seem to be manifestly incorrectly sized - I'd put money on them being at least an 8 normal width.

Does it seem reasonable to say the product "doesn't match description".

  • I'd be surprised if an eBay business seller doesn't accept returns. If you message explaining that you'll cover returns postage (you can get Paypal to refund this anyway), then they should accept the return if reasonable.

  • They accept returns for a "doesn't fit" but it costs ~£4. "doesn't match description" has no fee... I guess I just want reassurance I'm not being unreasonable.

Usually I wouldn't bother, but they just seem so totally out of kilter. The ones I tried on in a shop were with running socks vs work socks and following a day at work plus cycling - so my feet would have been at least as swollen.

  • Received a full bike a few days ago which had been severely damaged in transit (paint all scratched discs damaged etc). Messaged the seller asking to return the item and haven't heard anything back. I've opened a claim through ebay but that tells me I may have to wait 21 days.

Has anyone got any advice on how to hurry this up or is it just a waiting game?

    Cheers

  • Just sold something to someone in Germany. They've not paid yet (getting on a week) but they did message me to say they were 'waiting for their PayPal account to be charged with gbp'.

I don't mind waiting, as they've bothered to contact me. But what does that even mean?

  • When you say is costs £4 - Are you saying they charge a fee to process a return?

  • Means they're not gonna pay.

  • Seems a bit weird that they're not trying to get me to post it first or something in that case.
    Maybe they're just a twat!

update: apparently they're waiting for a payment in GBP, so they can avoid currency conversion fee :-/

  • Yes, or well I think it's postage fee as well, but for a "I ordered the wrong size/doesn't fit" return is c £4.

  • They can be pretty brutal. I had to use PayPal for something like Argentinian or Uruguain pesos once and was absolutely reamed - upfront fee + % + screwed on the fx.

  • Got a link?

  • There is an option to pay in local currency rather than use the PayPal FX rate but you have to switch your payment method to credit card and then find the option where it's hidden away. They don't make it obvious
