Rear is limited to 35, so you'll want to keep the weight off it.
A longer fork and/or bigger rolling radius on the front tyre will shift your weight rearwards.
Theoretically, a 26x 2.3-2.5" or 650b x 1.7-1.9 tyre should have about the same rolling radius as 700x35mm, depending on pressure and knobble height.

Depends on what generation the frame is. I had 42c knobbly tyres front and rear on my V4 without issues.
