I suppose that's why I said 'in this country'
So you did.

Entirely illegal on the road, too.

Innocent children could be reading this!

What is the legality on things like this?

• #18006
Sounds like a boosted board.

The same as for Segways and hoverboards.

Glorious commute in this morning. No one about, cool breeze through Burgess park, and I managed to catch the green wave the entire way from St Georges Circus to Fleet St.

Scaring the pedestrians today...
I ring my cycle bell repeatedly to give them time, but to no avail.
Then I have to brake as I can't get past...
...and nothing like a canti to get a beautiful loud SQAAEAEEEEEEEEAALLLLLLLLL!!!Which results in people finally moving, but today one literally jumped.
I really don't mean to do this, but people just don't always seem to notice cycle bells :)

Quite. ... The function of pedestrian crossings is to facilitate crossing at certain difficult spots, e.g. at junctions, not by implication to prohibit it elsewhere.
Great post, thanks Oliver.

I managed to a catch every red light from Mile through old St to soho. Even stopped for a minute hoping it would break the cycle.
Was eerily quiet on the roads this morning though!

^Now charged with manslaughter too.
Be careful out there. -
• #18015
Manslaughter?
Need to get rid of death by dangerous driving and replace with manslaughter for deaths caused by drivers.
-
• #18016
Yes. Manslaughter should be the charge, let the courts decide the sentence.
-
• #18017
It stands to reason that you could have broken the cycle if you hadn't stopped for a minute. :)

The thread's still locked, which is probably just as well. It's all terribly sad.

Manslaughter sound so much more serious than death by careless driving for some reason, perhaps it's because death by careless driving rarely results in a prison sentence.
-
• #18020
Possibly but i was so sick of stopping i stopped again... actually that sounds like a fucking stupid idea saying that out loud!

As far as the expressions are concerned, it's 'causing death by dangerous driving', of course, which already removes the perpetrator from the action by 'interposing' the dangerous driving as a means ('by') and making it quite unclear prima facie what the relation between cause and effect is. 'Manslaughter' is clear--someone has slaughtered someone (and slaughter is a powerful word).

I've posted some of today's court copy in the "In the News" thread as the original is locked.

Posts made on this site are being used as evidence in court.
As predicted by others on here. Might we suggest the discussion of open court case be ceased pretty sharpish?

Ooops. I'll go edit my comment.
read that as 'nob orders', that superb owl has a lot to answer for.
