Before his tracker shut down he was running somewhere around an hour ahead of caps 111 and 35 and had been running at a similar pace, which should give us an idea of about where is.
What are the rules about keeping your tracker running? Are riders expected to stop to get batteries?

• #2854
Thought someone said the fixed rider had scratched, but 136 Cesare Pedrini's dot still looks active.

Presume Hippy doesn't know?

• #2856
He knows. Someone contacted him.

ftfy
a) Tracker battery has run out
b) he's stopped for lunch somewhere (there's a restaurant just down the road from his last tracker update) and he's put his bike somewhere where the tracker can't get/send a signal from/to the satellites
c) fkndgs ate his tracker
d) attacked by woodsmen (gotta light?) -

Also remember that frrt reports the distance to the start of the parcours, not the finish, so there's another 15km (mostly downhill) from when frrt says someone is done.
Patrick Miette (32) seems to be coming in an odd route, there doesn't seem to be a way from where he is to the start of the parcours without backtracking or doing the parcours in reverse first.
[EDIT] Patrick has backtracked to the road he needed to take to near the start of the parcours. He'll still need to go back the wrong way for a few hundred yards or so or be in danger of not covering the entire parcours (it may not be obvious from the tracking updates whether he does this or not...)

Cool, does Mal know he knows?

hippy just tweeted "bit warm".
"I'm still 40k away. Out of water so stopped at pub."

• #2861
Go hippy, nearly there.

Pub, water. Aha.

David Coulon about to cross the border into Slovakia. He has already ridden further today than yesterday. 135 km as opposed to 100 all day yesterday

It took me year and years to get this, and I sometimes still get it wrong.
Oddly the thing that drilled it into my brain was Port and Starboard. You can have left Port, but not Starboard, also Port lights are red, like Port itself, which should be passed to the left.
Also learning that if you look at the back of your hands with your thumb at 90 degrees to your fingers, the left hand side makes an L. This is the one that I use to check it most.

Left and Right is instinctive for me but have never been able to get port/starboard.
East/West is not instinctive either. I need to start to say "Never Eat Shredded Wheat" (although if I've wondering which way is West I only need to get as far as "Never Eat...")

Was just about to post about the backtrack.

And the tracker updates show he turned right (to head North briefly) when joining up with the road to Meteora to make sure he's going to do the whole of the parcours. Could have been easy to miss that bit when this fatigued.

That must have been fun!
Although I doubt you care anymore at this point of the race. -

Any hippy news from those on the scene?

I for one would like a gooch shot

Lee Pearce is only 15 km from the end and so hippy must be very close.

Reading this thread make me want to enter next year. I fancy a proper challange.
We can always Photoshop that in.
