Ah, OK, I was just wondering why a certain someone was a dot-watcher.
How was LEL?

How are the MASH blokes fairing? I don't know their names
-
• #2680
The MASH people made it to CP4 and scratched

Thank you!
Not really watched videos yet, lack of time. -

Am I right in thinking steel is the material of choice, for the race ?
-
• #2684
Nice bike. Looks to be using quite short cranks, no?
-
• #2685
He looked a bit out of place at the start, amidst all those fancy bikes. :)

So has hippy got there yet?
-
• #2687
YES FAM!

Uneducated comment here, but sometimes all those odd shaped apidura bags look far more complicated than sticking on a rear rack with a pannier. Is the aero benefit really that much or is there an element of fashion going on?
-
• #2689
Pretty sure the aero is a big deal. Especially over those kind of distances. I use a carradice style saddle bag and you do feel the drag with that compared to a saddle pack or nowt.

Some n=1 testing in an article a while ago suggested you'd lose ~15mins every 100km. Pretty significant over the course of TCR.
Edit: article here

Matthias Dalgas having a break and giving samuli a lead, they have an interesting night ahead
-
• #2692
Ah, I only just spotted that Samuli's coming from near Thessaloniki.

#12 Stephane Ouaja should be the next over the line in a couple of hours. Another great ride from one of the most entertaining riders although probably his least spectacular. Enjoyed his Instagram as well. Looking forward to watching his dot again next year.

I think Matthias Dalgas has had a few mechanical issues, he was very highly placed a until a long stop in Nis.
But that should take nothing away from Samuli's ride, it's been great following him, he has blazed a very different trail to all those ahead. Hard to tell if his route has paid off for him or if it is just down to his incredibly strong riding over the last 2 or 3 days.

Interesting the article says that it is less a factor on a hilly route. There are many advantages of panniers also: lower to the ground for better handling, easy to detach, easier to pick up the bike by the frame as they don't obscure it.

I think Samuli said he messed up his early routing, he was quick last year so must be strong... and on his frankenbike Surly.
Edit: Stephane just coming in soon. Congratulations to him.

Dalgas mechanicals - broken rim, broken cleats (walking far on gravel).

+1 for this, especially with that rear light assembly (custom braze on? I'd love to know more...)

It's a accustom made bike for him. Based on Jan hein bikes.
Nope, LEL for me this year.
