Road Wheels & Road Wheel Recommendations?

  • What is the closest I can get to HED Ardennes+ / Zipp 30 without the ludicrous price tag? Kinlin? DT Swiss?

  • DT Swiss RR411 / DT240 / CX Rays ended up being not a lot cheaper than HEDs so I would look at Kinlin.

The DT Swiss wheels have turned out very nice, though.

  • Kinlin XR31T, DT 350 or Novatec whichever is cheaper, any spokes you can afford.

  • Yup. They're wonderful.

Like any expensive bike stuff if you're not racing, they're pointless, but I love them. Such high quality. Braking is very good for carbon. I got clinchers because they're just for posing and making a sweet noise. Do it.

  • Will probably go Kinlin XR22 or XR31 to Hope hubs, with whatever spokes Martin wants to use.

Should make for nice every day wheels for the Genesis

  • Just go with whatever he recommends. I'm on my 3rd wheelset from him and now I just tell him usage + budget and he sorts it all out.

  • Everything in this post resonates.

    Already #buyered.

  • Does anybody know if the oem dt swiss wheels that they make for specialized and focus, which has a native 142x12mm thru axle can be converted into 135x5mm qr using the kits for the r24 etc wheels?

  • Wrong place

  • Yeah. I have the tubs and they're really good.

Braking is decent and they look pretty understated in the grey on black.

  • My rear Zipp 303's bearings felt a bit rough so I've taken the rear 177 hub apart. The two hub hearings feel pretty smooth, but the freehub bearings are rough. Can I replace the bearings in the freehub or do I need to buy a whole new freehub?

  • You can replace the bearings in a Zipp freehub. I've done it. Just tap them out and press the new ones in. If I remember correctly, there's a tubular spacer inside the freehub, but nothing complicated.

  • Yes I had a fiddle and found the spacer. That's good news as the freehubs are pretty pricey. Did you use a special press? I've got a BB press I might be able to reappropriate

  • Arc 22 rims on volta hubs with CX-Ray spokes for £187 (with Aug discount)

    http://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/arc-cx-ray-probuild-volta-11speed-clearance-dealx.htm

Sounds like a bargain, any reason why I shouldn't push the button?

  • Trashed about 5 spokes on my rear wheel along with the rear mech, mech now replaced.

    Do I

    A; Buy new wheels
    B; Rebuild wheel

They are just cheap training wheels, AXIS branded hubs to DT swiss R460

  • Did you use a special press?

Vice and a combination of the old bearings and sockets that press on the outer race do the job

  • That's a good price. I paid nearly that much on CX Ray spokes alone for one of my wheel sets.

  • Yea that's what I was thinking alright.

Anyone on here have them? I remember hearing good reviews of the Pave's haven't heard anything about this specific build.

  • I remember reading something about how some of the Superstar own brand rims are flexy as they try to save weight over stiffness, but I can't remember which ones in particular they were talking about. For under £200 I don't think you can go wrong.

  • Aren't they all just rebranded other stuff?

  • Aug discount?

I ckick through to a price of £249.99

  • Yeah apparently.

  • What's the august discount? Could be tempted.

    Found:AUGUST25WHEELS

  • I have some pave 28s on dt240s. I think they're pretty good. They're stiff enough for me to not notice any annoying flex, but I'm no sprinter and only weigh 74kg.
