  • GBBF at Olympia last night. As good as ever.
Beer, pork based snacks, men in beards and sandals, obsessive beermat collectors, ill-advised headwear.

  • I'm going on Friday. Pretty much the same agenda as usual: beer and pork-based snacks!

  • I joined CAMRA on the way in. Seems a fairly good deal, you get 15 months for the price of 12, a reduced entry price and vouchers for two free pints.
I've been meaning to join for ages, my local does a CAMRA discount so I will get my money's worth.

  • Excellent . Will look out for you

All of the above were there tonight - I'd not seen the beermat guys before - slightly weird! The cheese toasties were good!

  • Those crisps look a bit dodgy.

  • There is a huge beer festival taking place in Wellington this weekend, sadly I'm am not attending.

Did attend Behemoth's "road to beervana" event yesterday, partnered up with McClures pickles. Tried their "Michelada"... a lazily measured mix of 'Hopped up on Pils', spicy pickle juice and tomato juice. Got a lot of pickle and spice (the latter being very unusual for NZ), needed a more pronounced beer though. Will consider a DIY version next time we finish a jar of gherkins.

    What could be more important?

Hit up CW Barrel House, Pie&Ale, and Smithfield Blackjack Tap today. All good. Some weird Cider Whisky Barrel aged ale at Smithfield was odd but good. Mango Sour at CW went unfinished but the NE & NW DIPA's were good.

  • What was the Champion Beer at the GBBF? I didn't spot it. There was a massive queue at the Fullers stand, so I'd wondered if they'd won it?

  • Bingham's Vanilla Stout, brewed in Berkshire apparently.

  • Yeah something called Goats Milk

In Liverpool, beers a plenty here!

  • Just been - loads of fun. Who decided the winners? Judges or public vote?

Annoyed the usual CAMRA hypocrisy of foreign beers being allowed to use CO2, but all English beer being limited to ye old pump.

  • I never remember what I tried, but I really just go for ones with weird names, interesting pictures on the pump or that are brewed locally to places I know.

  • all English beer being limited to ye old pump

    No Cloudwater then?

  • Didn't see them. There was so much to take in though so easily missed. Was surprised by how many breweries whose beer I've had on draught had cask offerings. Not that I'm anti cask just some beer seems to taste better with some more fizz... And CAMRAs restrictions irk me.

@Bad_Science I can't remember either. Was drinking thirds but lost track quickly... should have taken photos along the way. The Titanic Plum Stout comes to mind though.

Possible but guessing they'd not be invited as dropped cask at start of year, Keg or Can only now pretty much.

There's enough variety they'd not be missed though. Should really visit gbbf one year, does look ace.

  • I know it's not the best beer in the world, but Tesco now do the 660ml bottles of Punk IPA- 3 4 £5- Tramp Maths on that is ridiculous.

    Yes I enjoyed that.

  • You can't. The Franz was good a few times in hot. Ghostship is my regular. What is vocation?

  • Foreign beers were actually served using an air compressor

  • Vocation "pride and joy" or "life and death".

    They're ok.
