Hi Gary, I'm currently in kings cross area, if that's close to you. Don't mind a cycle though...
-
• #7
I am over in London Bridge. Are you around tomorrow? Do you read your PMs?

I had a black m trax with straight bladed forks. If I had the opportunity to go back in time and correct all my wrongs and current woes, apol0gise to exs, brush the tears from children's eyes, I'd probably cancel the sale of that bike first. It was damn springy.

Will it be ready to ride with the Cyclone pedals and bag fitted? Thanks for mentioning about the wheels and axle. I think I may go fixed/single when they need replacing.
-
• #16
Bag fitted but as stated in pm no cyclone pedals up in London but will drop them up soon. So if you have some spare pedals to put on then great or if you want to borrow spds then that's fine..txt/ring me!

Many thanks Chris.
The bike did the 20 miles comfortably.
I will put on a longer stem.
Hi, long time since posting, have decided to let my classic and commute bikes go, no space and dire need of funds forces sale.
1st up is a Mercian 58cm clubman style bicycle. Reynolds 531 butted tubes throughout. Campag dropouts. 120mm spacing. Frame is straight, has a once attractive metallic brown finish. A previous owner has touched up some sad paint in a non metallic brown ( I bought the bike as a rolling restoration-i was going to refinish the frame completely and update with new/retro components but a friend pointed out it's desirable patina, so gave it an oily rag finish, fitted some cheap wheels and rode it instead, as the frame fits me well). The wheels that were on the bike originally were 27 1/4, with the original rear (dead) and a new steel front, but fitted die compe long drops and a pelisier/ridgida 700c wheelset that has seen better days. Rear axle is problematic and these wheels are period and run true, but were cheap/need replacing so price reflects this.
Chainset is a stronglight variant which has battle scars, 36t and 48t chainrings. Ideally needs replacing.
Seatpost is gipiemme. Upon cleaning I realized it's a 27.0 not 27.2 so made an aluminium shim and it holds so just making that clear.
The rack won't be included in the sale-no pannier mounts (I used p-clips) spoils the clean lines, imho..
Brooks saddle is possibly included. I bought this for the bike second hand and the previous owner had it set saggier than I'd prefer. It suits the geometry of this set up so if needed will let it go with the bike, price will reflect (this is £60). I have a San Marco Regina copy which would suit for £10 if needed.
Gearset is Shimano golden arrow/early 600 derailleur. All work fine.
Headset is cheapo generic jobby.
BB is campagnolo record, in good condition.
Stem and bars are possibly earlier than 1983 gb which are in reasonable condition. They are fairly short and narrow for me, I'm 5'11.
The carradice Nelson bag is included, needs duckwax etc.
Pedals aren't photographed yet but are suntour cyclone with cages and brown christophe straps.
So all in all, a cheap Sunday bike with scope for full restoration with period wheels and sympathetic frame refinish. The frame is as to be expected, great feel and ride, I've been regularly doing 40-60 mile rides as is around Sussex and London, very smooth. Just wish I had time/money to continue.
I'd like £300/£240 without Brooks.
Let me know if this is above/below expectation. This bicycle is Eroica compatible.
Next up is a Raleigh Mtrax 7000 531 56cm Frame which I fitted a fsa/tiagra 10 spd groupset and new mavic/rigida wheelset to get me to work lickety-split. It did and now i have a lesser commute. The frame is well regarded as a cheap club frame (hi ten forks and rear triangle) but built well and feels solid at speed. Paint is generally ok but a few nicks here and there.
The tiagra 10 speed groupset is generally ok, could use a new chain and cassette soon.
Brakes are sram calipers, in good condition.
Wheels are mavic/rigida, cartridge bearings and eyeleted rims. Seem tough and roll well, not too much use. Fairly new vitoria randonneur tyres 28c..
Carbon seat post, mounts for mudgaurds but not panniers, selle italia flite race saddle bit worn but comfy.
All in all a capable and fast bicycle which has taken on some good rides (60+ miles) in comfort, and hit my commute running hard and got me there on time always.
I would like £250 for it.
Sad to see these go but heading towards a 1 bike policy soon.
This is my first advert on here, I've always had great fun reading the comments so please go easy on me, if you all think price is too high/low let me know..dont want to split at the moment..
Can meet in London with mercian, other bike is in Chichester but can meet London or Brighton over the next week or so..thanks!
