  • There's a whole thread about me stripping hubs. Most of them have been quite cheap. Novatec track hubs, and 2 OEM Ambrosio track hubs. I just don't know whether more expensive hubs will stop me from stripping the threads, or just be a more expensive mistake - hence why I'd be happy to run a left-hand drive crank setup.

  • £518?! Bloody hell

  • Plus disc wheels are not designed for this sort of use, in my career I could count two fixie-skidda coming into the shop with busted axle/hub bonding on rear disc wheels and wondering why the disc was loose despite the axle being fully tighten on the track-ends.
Discs are good for time trials and specific track events (and in HHSB builds, just for pictures tho, not real usage).

  • a few days for a tub
God! If it's taking you a few days to change a tub you're doing it wrong!
If the rim is prepped properly for the first tubular, replacing the tubular thereafter should be a breeze!
Whip the old one off, one layer of set glue on the tubular (can be glued in advance to speed things up), one layer of tacky glue on the rim, bang the tubular on, pump it up. Easy! 30 Minutes tops!

  • For two sets of 75s it's a fair price I think, considering you can run a full retard double drivetrain on one bike.

  • If you want to be original that's the only thing left that hasn't been done surely. Both side drive. Chainrings on both sides. Would look shit but it'd be cool

  • True: not a bad price - I just don't need 2 pairs of Sug75s

  • Already thought of this. Immediately thought "fuck no". Would be quite quirky, for the fixie hipsters - but the purists wouldn't he having any of it.

Anyway, this all seems like a lot of malarkey- I'll stick to right hand drive, unless I find a decent way to go left - but, as I said, that will be a task because my frame frobably doesn't have the clearance to begin with.

  • Okay guys - What's the verdict on the BLB Notorious disc? I don't like BLB myself, but it's a fixed gear disc designed for road riding, and accepts clincher tyres. Yea or nay?

  • You're really ovethinking this which makes it not very hhsb.

  • My understanding is that they are re-branded FFWD discs. But if you look around you can probably get the FFWD version cheaper. You used to be able to get a brand new clincher HED disc cheaper as well but after a quick look they appear to be more expensive now.

  • A disc would look shit

  • ^I agree with upsidedown.

My old mash was HHSB by numbers

  • I need a 4-spoke in my life

  • You're really ovethinking this which makes it very hhsb.

  • I didn't know about them being FFWDs. Can you get FFWD track discs in Clincher, though? My understanding was that you couldn't.

  • You used to be able to, from what I heard FFWD decided not to sell a clincher track disc anymore so BLB purchased all the stock from FFWD and rebranded them. This may be a myth, but they do look similar.

  • Either way, If you have a history of stripping threads from skidding you will most likely rip the hub loose from a disc if you skid on it.

  • I did learn that that was likely from not properly tightening my cog, and using cheap hubs. Do you think I could do it, if I used decent kit, decent tools, and a good quality hub? Anyway - If not a disc, I'll either build up a spoked wheel with a bolt on hub, or buy another Corima from a friend of mine.

  • So I'm picking up a Zipp Service Course SL stem (pictured) from @Creek_Tebsin. Still looking for saddle, seatpost, and bars - any recommendations?

  • Zipp SL80 if drops. Specialized power?

  • I'm thinking that I'll go for wide risers. 680mm-750mm

  • Hit @xmicckax for some good risers

  • Still looking for bars, thinking of snapping up some Easton Monkey Bars. Also, I've just PM'd @roboto about getting some custom Vinyl cut for this build
