I don't have children, do they need something other than good practical long-lasting flexible storage :)
If you have some carpentry chops you could cut the billy down to 16mm.

Kitchen extractors. The previous owners installed a Howdens one before we moved in. It was set up as self extracting but we have since vented it outside. The fan is an impeller style.
It basically doesn't extract. I've done lots of investigstion and troubleshooting and seems to point to the intake fans blowing as much air out as in. Enough to disrupt the airflow into the hood so nothing gets sucked out.
Nothing in the manual suggests a different set up of the fan for direct venting (beyond removing charcoal filters). Am I missing a trade secret or is it just a shit hood?

The length of the duct run might be a variable to look at?
But from my experience most, if not all, of the low-to-mid range domestic extractors seem to be decorative items. -

I tested it with the extractor duct disconnected and saw the same bahaviour.
I suspect that your experience, and subsequent asessment, may be the correct answer. I live in hope of a second opinion.

Yup, brushes fucked, fitted the new ones and the washing machine is like new again, winning!

It's not used all that often and only fitted about 6 months ago (ducting)

Yes. It's fine. The airflow exhibits the same behaviour even when disconnected from the ducting. That gives me a high degree of confidence that it's not the ducting.
The only thing I can think of is that there is an issue with the fan blades. Howdens though. Not original purchaser. Probably just worth replacing.

£12, very satisfied, have already replaced the drain filter pump thing on it as well! All hoses connected up a treat, did a quick cycle to test it out and it ran sweet as a nut!

Howdens ones are the cheapest of cheap shit (Lamona?)
For £350 you can buy an all-steel Miele one that could push your house along. -

This one I think.
Unsurprised that it is cheap crap as the previous owners installed it under obligation when they sold. We had the ducting installed to extract to outside as previously it just "sucked" it to the ceiling. We knew it barely did anything, then on further investigation last week, we took off the filters that we no longer needed as it was ducted, then found it was basically blowing instead of sucking. -

We did have one at the point where it exited the kitchen (pre-ducting, we ducted between the hood and the exit point) - about 5m of ducting away, but that was removed as the two fans would conflict each other, if one was off, and the other on, etc. They were on separate switches (at the time). The power is still available to there, so we could put it back in, but it woudl still be on a separate switch.

The extraction rates for the one we have are 200-400 m3/hr. The cooker matchy-matchy Ilve ones are 1000 m3/hr. For 10-15 times the price ...

Will ask the electrician tomorrow - he should be able to do this actually.

They worked out really well. Good value and quality 7/5

DIY-ers. What should I replace my kitchen floor with? At the moment we have a black and white chequerboard limo or vinyl, which is getting pretty tatty and has a rip in it where someone attempted to install an oven.
I don't want tiles as I think the floor moves around too much. Not keen on wood either as have wood in other rooms and getting a match is probably difficult. So I am left with Lino / vinyl - has anyone put anything down recently that they would recommend?
Thanks.
