Just ordered some nut fitting r559's from SJS as they were seemingly discounted.
This means that I am creeping ever closer to actually cabling the thing and there fore making an enormous mess of it....

This bike is proving to be me immensely frustrating, just in terms of mudguard/brake fittings.
The Brakes turned up from SJS on Friday which was bob on and I had a bit of time to fit them.
The rear goes on no problems and there is enough mudguard/tyre clearance to loose an aircraft carrier in.
The front though......
The drop on the r559 was too long, which is something I thought might happen, so I left the RD650 on there. For some reason though the clearance is tiny and the mudguard also has a sodding rivet holding the fixing plate into it, which meant it rubbed, just on that rivet, on a 23...after many swears, hacksaws and a lot more time that I had imagined, I have a rolling bike with at least some mudguard cover rolling on 28's. (I still need to trim the gaurd stays though, esp on the front).
Next weekend I'm hoping to make really hard work of the cabling 😬

Looks too nice to punish with winter riding!

In the depths of winter, I think the MTB is the only sensible option for me this year. Especially as I have signed up to do Strathpuffer in Jan :0)
I still expect to roundly abuse this bike though.

What a pain. Ball bearings in the fork dropouts to give some more crown clearance?

Interestingly, I did try a mock set up, with some offcuts of metal, but the axle didn't sit in the dropouts in a way that inspired confidence.
The trade off with the front mudguard now is just that I don't have the front section past the brake, but with flaps I'll get semi decent foot and drive train coverage.
I'm sure by the time this is finished I will have tried a few more bodges too...

This is lovely. I am going to make a trip to Rourke and get my 'forever bike' ordered early next year.

You won't be dissapointed, it's a great experience!

Managed to get this rolling this weekend, my first attempt at cabling, so not the best/neatest of jobs, but it sort of works!
I'll have a tweak with it next weekend and get it propelled set up.
I also need to get the front flap to hang lower, as I know @edscoble & @BenDelaney will get very upset about it in its current state.
We more tweaks (LH shifter needs cleaning and greasing, chain needs shortened etc) and it should be set for a tough old winter.

This, of course, is why I'm asking which model it is. So I too can bask in the instagram like shower.

Mate, we can't believe a word too say due to your sponsorship obligations.
Got any good inflatable kayak recommendations though?

You can always pop one on that silly French thing you have and then it might make it look (sorry) a bit more bling?

How dare you! One has always been about the bling bling!

Indeed you have, but that Canyon is just appalling

It certainly wasn't £40!

Agreed, that's my least favourite bike in the flat (probably explains why I never ride it these days)

Nice wheels bro!
I care, deeply.
I think the r559's are extra long drop, that's probably it.
I had some on a RRA I built up a few years ago and you can get them with the 'nut' fitting, so spot on, I hope!
