  • How much would you like for the rear pdw?

  • Correction 45mm which are the wider ones. Soz

  • If wide is good, not much really, just a nominal amount mate, name it.

  • Not Scoble, me.
I got the idea and the Esge blanks and Berthoud stays from Peter White.

  • Ah thanks mate!

I guess Squabs was referring to your/Peter White's experiments. It has to be said the Berthoud steel stays are nicely made with the flat section. As a matter of interest, did you ever weigh the setup? And did you fit two stays or one?

I went for Honjo$$$$ in the end ... Saw some Ti ones!! But they are US$250 which even a poser like me can't quite stomach, what with shipping being $70 more or something crazy.

  • First carbon wheels, now weight-weenie mudguards!

Who are you and what have you done with Skülly?

  • I used to have some Curana CLite guards which i made carbon stays for. Turned out pretty light and worked for a good couple of years until the guard snapped at the brake bridge. You could easily do the same thing with chromeplastics.

The stays were made from carbon kite rod, JB Welded to the existing metal guard interface (covered in heatshrink). And then mecanno rear stay fixings.

Those Swarf carbon guards are cool (thou £120) but would be even better with carbon stays.

  • ^was thinking about tent pole, kite poles even more sensible...

    Nice work.

  • Hehe I'm a weight weenie who hacked his account

  • Even more weenie-ish, the Berthoud stays are alu, not steel.
Never weighed the set-up, after sweating the fit just wanted to be done.

  • Really nice work, such slick.

  • I've got some Pelago alu 45mm mudguards, but they've developed a really annoying squeak on each pedal stroke, like they're flexing slightly. They're mounted with fairly new leather washers, but it's got worse over the last couple of months. Anyone got a better way of dampening them? Or recommend a different silver set that doesn't squeak as much?

  • You know for sure it's the fenders?
Also, dampening could be easily accomplished with a quick run under the shower or even a cup of l'acqua.

  • What options exist for 650+ tyres?
Will be running 3.0" nobbly nic on my soon to be finished ogre. Guessing cruds are the obvious option but anything better available?

  • I think mudhuggers come in big enough varieties

  • Love the look of those, just the job for my mudfest commute

  • Got some absolute monster width 29er guards for cross commuter- bit tight in frame though
Any tips on cutting a bit away? Tips to avoid cracking or breaking? Was planning to score then gently hacksaw, possibly couple of guide drill holes to aim at

  • What are they made of?
If plastic using heat to seal the edges works well.
Regardless, dremel is your friend as is making sure there is no tension at the attachment points when installed.

  • Thanks. Yes plastic so heat is a nice tip. Not got a dremel but I bet the electrician next door does!

  • Use it like you stole it.

  • Looking for a silver equivalent of these:

anyone know of anything? i don't have mudguard eyelets so like the fittings included on this one...

  • what is the widest mudguard SKS make? I want something for 29-er 2.35" Schwalbe Big One.

  • 65mm. Go GB though.

  • GB nice but pricey for this build .. any link to the 65mm SKS?
