Fuji track pro

  • Hi, looking for a bit of advice. Have been looking for a fixed gear bike to ride on the road for a while. I only ride mtb so far on a regular basis. I would like the extra training and fixed gear holds an interest with me.
Have seen an 2016 Fuji track pro for £700, I like the look of the bike and the parts seem pretty good to me at least. Has anybody here ridden one and could give their opinion? Also could anyone suggest any similar alternatives?

  • This crops up every now and then.

You are looking at a dedicated track bike, it is not designed to run brakes and the fork may not be made to accept a brake.
Yes it's a good bike, if your used to riding brakeless fixed on the road with cars/lorries/buses/ped's that will all try to kill you to death.

You can try and add brakes, ugly, more money.

Or you can try one of the cheaper off the pegs like the standard Fuji track which comes with brakes. Several really good bikes to be found way under £700.
If new to fixed best to start with brakes and then remove them if you can handle riding without.
    :)

  • Thanks for the reply, yes I am def going to need a front brake at least. I am thinking plenty of practise on quieter roads and Park paths.
I have looked at the site again and it's advertised with brakes, just not shown in the pictures. Although the fork appears to be drilled.
Again thanks for the heads up and advise.

  • Search on here for "my first fixed" that will throw up threads and chatter from newbies having a go.
This is a good but old thread as well https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/132604/

Ask sensible questions and the forum generally is helpfull :)

  • It's a lot of money to throw at something that you might not like. Not everyone gets on well with fixed gear. I'd recommend something second hand to start with so you can try it out and decide what you want, then move it on and get what you really want. Definitely get something with brakes to start with and make sure you quickly move on to something with either disc, trispoke, Corima or at the very minimum a basic stickerbomb. Personally, I'd like to see some pink and green fluoro, but not everyone here is ready yet to make the jump to 2007.

  • If it comes with name-brand carbon wheels it's a bargain. If it's got bargain bin components then it's a rip-off. If it's something in the middle...

I'm sure it'll be a good enough bike either way, Fujis usually are, but value is very subjective.

In that price range, I'd also be looking at a Dolan Seta or maybe a Giant Omnium plus some Chinese carbon wheels. If you want to spend less, Dolan Track Champion/TC1 can be had at near half the price and probably just as good.

  • Really appreciate the advice. Not quite ready for pink and green flouro, my wardrobe might argue with that though.
No carbon wheels and not sure it's a bargain but originally was 1200, oval components and wheels with omnium cranks.
It's all a bit new to me having ridden mtb for a couple of decades. I've not wanted to ride roads till I had a go of a mates fixed gear recently, the simplicity appeals.
Cheers for the alternatives I'll check them out.

  • check here http://www.dolan-bikes.com
direct sales from brand keep them cheap, lot of forum love for Dolans........
I got a FXE frameset and knocked up my own before swapping to a steel surly steamroller (another forum fave) the Dolan Pre Cursa is more racy.

  • Very tempted on the seta, thanks for the heads up on that it's gorgeous. Thinking to research some Chinese carbon wheels to go with that, any tips there? Had some good experience with light bicycle rims in the past.

  • Not on manufacturers but to regurgitate upsidedown paraphrasing xav: "25mm" (width) and "u-shape" are the current magic words.

  • I was looking at the bike today.

I would still buy CANNONDALE CAAD10 TRACK for a little more from sigmasports, sometimes they run extra 10% off too.

  • That cad10 is so well specced for the money. You can even brake on ellipses if you really must. Pretty sure the brake track is just painted over.
