That's wick about the crash.. when did you change from the Equilibrium to the Surly, what was the reason??
-
• #254
Still got the Equilibrium, eldest wasn't using the Surly as much as I'd like, so, I did it up how I wanted it, and changed my route to n from work to include more offroad. Back on the Equilibrium til the Surly is repaired.

He was as good as his word. Turned up this mornin with cash. Lbs sorted wheel out for free, got some Odi bartape (read good reviews, may be a little fat, but I'll give it a go), now considering new shoes. Have a choice of two in mind, Giro terraduro (which are available in boring black or a rather bright green/black) or Giant Amp mes.

Change of tyres imminent. 120tpi Knards are wonderful tyres, but they don't half puncture easily. Just ordered meself some 40c Gravelkings, let's see how they get on.
-
• #257
Keen to hear a review of those! Mixed riding? Are the knards intended as a race tyre?
-
• #258
Yep, mixed terrain, my 32s have held up pretty well on the Equilibrium. The Knards are an all round take yer bike where you like tyre, do Surly race?

Quick update. Gravel king sk 40mm tyres are excellent. Not the lightest, a bugger to get on initially, but so far not had to take em off. And if you're that way inclined, they are tubeless compatible. They grip well on towpath, bridalway, probably not gonna be great in deep mud, but you can't have everything, rather good on the tarmac too.
Having left elbow problems at the moment so I've removed the ritchey bars and put rhm02s on to see if that makes any difference. Thinkin it won't but worth a try. While I'm on about bars, anybody used/using Zipp service course sl70 ergos? Thoughts? -

Kate has them on her Giant. Or the aero-top version, I think. Nice bars, very short reach.

Cheers. Yeah, ergo(or the flatter top ones) are a damn site cheaper than the round top ones. Looking for short reach, so they seem to fit the bill. Very nice lookin Giant.
-
• #262
Look at Ritchey Neoclassic, nice long drop, and very short reach similar to a compact drop of 73mm.
-
• #263
Not dissimilar to my rhm02s, considered the sl70s because they have a slight flair (4°) at the drops, and much cheaper than cowbells.

I have the Zipp Service Course 70 Ergo (not the SL, but I think the shape is the same) on my Macho Man, and I love them. Wrapped them in 3mm fizik tape, and they are the most comfy bars I've ever ridden. Once you get used to the ergo/flat top you wont be going back - I really miss the flat tops on my other bike.
I took some photos of the bar it self before assembling the bike, you can see them here if you want: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/13069607/

Spot on. Cheers for that.

• #266
How about Ritchey Evo max comp, also flare in the drops and I think cheaper.
-
• #267
Just wonderin, before I stick em on ebay, anybody interested in a pair of hardly used Giro terraduro shoes, size 43, bright green n black. £80 posted uk.
Edit : have posted in classifieds. -

Considering changing bars on both my bikes, with that in mind, any interest in Salsa cowbell 3 42mm and Ritchey venturemax comp 42mm. 20 quid each plus postage or can meet in Manchester if you're oop north.

Warning! When your bike is sat on the yard and your youngest says it looks dirty, and she'll wash it for a bit of pocket money, do not go inside and leave her to it. My very glossy black equilibrium is now rather dull and covered in tiny scuffs/scratches. She only went and used a normal dish sponge rather than non scratch.
Powdercoaters here we come. Thinking about colours now, still like olive green, also considering summat in the yellow spectrum or maybe (due to our leaders choice) pink ? -
• #270
Break out the Autosol first. Probably plenty of clearcoat left that will polish up
-
• #271
Off to Halfords in the morning. Never thought of that. Cheers.

Good shout. Did a test patch on the chainstay this afternoon, not perfect, but then there are lots of chips around the rear end. Washed it thoroughly sprayed gt85 into all the vent holes and major tubes, once it's drained I'll Autosol the whole frame and leave it til next year to get it powdercoated.

Excellent!
+1 for yellow bikes
-
• #274
Yep, I'm leaning towards yellow, my day one was originally yellow, and with predominantly black components it'll look rather nice.

What about a flat grey
