Just bought myself a bottle of this. One of the nicest drams I've had in quite some time:

Yep, nice stuff that.

^As opposed to the age unspecified Select Oak, which is fucking terrible (sold mostly in airport duty free in 1l bottles).

Nothing screams shite like a 'Travel Retail Range.'

Speaking of terrible whiskey (travel retail edition), Ugh, Canada

Tried the Nikka? How is it? My 12 yr Bunnahabain has nearly run out so I was eyeing some up but haven't really delved in to Japanese whisky before.

I've had a couple of drams of it and it's an absolutely smashing whiskey. My only other experience of Japanese whiskey was Nikka All Malt which was a floral, fragrant almost light whiskey. I was expecting more of the same here but this is way more complex and quite rich. It comes in red, black and white. I have the black version so can't comment on the others.

saw that stuff everywhere, unfortunately didn't see this post until today, and I've been back in the UK for 3 days..
In the end got a bottle of Michter's and a bottle of Jefferson's.
Will be drinking soon -

Have you been watching Moonshiners?

White label? Laphroaig is the most common peaty thing I've found in UK bars.

Nah, you want this one:

Right, I have a friends 30th coming up and a group of us usually club together to get a tasty whisky at this landmark age. Budget is around £180 and only real tasting notes are island based, lightly peated and pleasant. Just looking for any suggestions really.

The best whisky I've had recently was Glendronach 21. About £100 per bottle, non-chill filtered, 48% abv, really nice sherry essence. Maybe not what you're after as it has no peatiness and is a Highland whisky, but it's definitely something different and it's fucking amazing. Maybe get this and something peaty in the £80 range? 2 bottles of whisky>1 bottle of whisky.

We ended up choosing this bad boy
https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/bunnahabhain/scallop-divers-dram-1987-bottled-2016-wemyss-malts-bunnahabhain-whiskies/
it was distilled the year of his birth, from Islay, not so much peaty but by all accounts should be a good nip. Will try and get a dram of that Glendronach at some point, sounds lovely! -

Getting into the strathisla this evening I think. Very easy to drink. Real fruity pallet, would have loved to have tried the previous batch from a few years ago as that was supposed to be much better.

So, so good. I just need to hurry up and buy some more.

I was about to recommend you put your money into a couple of bottles for that budget with one of them being the bunnahabhain 18yr (as their stuff is quite lightly peated in comparison to the rest of the island).
The peatiness mellows out the longer the maturation and with bunnahabhain already not being massively peaty I'd be interested to know how this ended up after 28 years. Pretty good price too, not suffering the usual crazy hike in price for 25 year olds and above. Cracking present.

Fingers crossed I get a shot of it, the price point is pretty amazing considering the age and I'm also a big fan of Islay whisky so it ticked a lot of boxes for me, hope he likes it. He better bloody like it! Will update here once he opens it!

Who'd believe it, my mother-in-law just whatsapped me to let me know she bought a bottle of Strathisla for a party tomorrow! I married well.

You certainly did marry well. It got it instead of the Aberlour 12

Aldi's Speyside wins a gold medal
Drinking it now, it is good. The Islay is a bit of a corker too.
