Basically I'm saying that the size of the entry space should be smaller than the exit; moving the wheel back and not changing the fender position would accomplish this. -

This needs to go on a plinth on a wall above a fireplace in a logcabin somewhere.
Yeah, I need to fiddle with the attachment at the chainstay bridge - it's a little bit of a lash-up at the moment. If I can get the wheel further back in the dropouts I can get a little more clearance there, but I'm not sure whether the stays are long enough to make room at the back; the guards were a donation from a mate who had them on a frame with skinnier tyres. Will have a play, and once I'm happy will add mudflaps for those full CTC/crusty audaxer vibes...
