There's someone who goes along the Eastway (zooming past me) on one of those electric fat bikes . I have to say I'm rather jealous.

Different generations I suppose, I just can't see how anyone could want to buy a Trek. As a hire bike, if there's no other option- yes. Spending your own money on one? Never.

My Trek fanboy-ness is born purely out of experience of riding them. My emonda is one bike that never fails to put a smile on my face. Having gone through so many bikes now I can definitely say they ride exceptionally well and are an innovation led company.

I will be racing cross this year on a crockett too.

Hah, fair point. I don't know if any Klein people were left at that point.

Whether you think that they have value or not, Cannondale does continually innovate (over-size tubing, welding practices, head-shock, Lefty, BB30, etc), which appeals to me.

It was made by Trek in the Trek factory. No Klein input other than the name that they bought to remove a competitor.

Innovation wise same goes for the rest 2 big ones Specialized and Trek. I thought you were repelled by the idea of Lance being ridden one. I loved Dale too. SS Hi-Mod is defo above in my list than S-works Tarmac.

Much of Cannondale's innovation was plagiarism. Over sized tubing and welding techniques were a Klein innovation that Cannondale claimed as theirs and was eventually resolved with a lawsuit. The damage was done as even to this day people still think Cannondale were the innovators.

I agree it was Klein that came up with the concept, Cannondale scaled it- and ran into a number of issues, famously.

Quick question on these, how does the law work? Can it propel you at a maximum of 15mph with your 250w motor included? Or is it limited to 250w total power?

I.E, if i'm riding up the zoncolan at 300w and about 10kmp/h, can the bike put out the full 250w to propel me up there faster? (If we transpose the Zoncolan to the UK?)

In the UK it's about the primary source of propulsion, so assisted pedalling is allowed, but just motoring along without pedalling isn't. And it's to do with total speed, not power output.

I'm asking because we are meant to be filming a promo video for the electric bikes in a race against a group of relatively fit roadies. Trying to gauge the plausibility and also the gradient of hill we need.

The power assist cuts out at like 16mph, in the UK at least, so that means you would probably fly away from me on the Zoncolan because there's no way I could ride up it at anything above 10mph average. The settings on the electric bike I played with had it so the motor could assist as much as you pedal, so soft pedal and not much is added, pedal faster and it will max out, or it could just go straight to 16mph as long as the pedals are turning. An e-bike is a way bigger advantage on a mountain than on the flats.
