I got a couple of Neco bottom brackets to try something out on the cheap and I needed two identical BBs with metal cups on both sides. That was 4 years ago and the bearings now need replacing after about 8000 miles and 3 winters commuting. I don't think they're bad and the bearings are standard sizes that you can buy off the shelf anywhere.
I totally get your point about LBSs too. Last two places I've lived, my LBSs have been useless/unhelpful/uninterested to the point that I've ended up doing the jobs myself. The one in the next town along was my kind of place, with loads of older bikes hanging up, but the old guy who ran it is retiring and they're almost never open.
No, I think you're right Miitch, I do have photos but I can't find my USB so I'm waiting for that replacement to arrive.
I hate my LBS, always let me down, lie about products/stock, quite a lot of mark up too. tbh they have a fairly bad rep ont tinternet, so its not just me, but the mechanics are usually good guys if you get to meet them. I'll suck it up tho if I have to. I can admit defeat, occasionally.
Cheers man.
I'm guessing I should avoid the neco headset too?
