  • It's a non-matching set of cranks. Some sets have the edge parallel to the crank, some have the diagonal parallel to the crank. Mismatch and you get a 45deg phase shift.

  • Have you never met anyone 'military'?

  • Main failure there is network monitoring. If a network must be isolated, there should be checks which try and connect out/in and alert if they succeed. The isolated network should also alert on unrecognised devices connecting.

  • Also not sure why you need a spanner on a quick release axle...

  • Oh god, was this part of the selection process and we'll be tracked down and press-ganged into the Navy?

  • Not necessarily an Epic Fail, but it is twisting my melon a bit! :

  • Yep,
each statement in the tv ad starts; 'If ......'
They've already got plenty of people who 'can't'.

  • @AlexD, I'd say it was pretty spot on

  • haha, no I meant spotting mistakes in the video is the recruitment ....I fear we have taken the Queens Shilling....

  • So she feels no connection with that? Even if she's a more recent immigrant, the majority Australian population she's part of is largely descended from the very same Poms and has been doing a very efficient job of mistreating the indigenous population all on their own initiative since.

If she's slapping down some Brit who thinks it was only the colonials who did that, fair enough up to a point. But "you oppressed our indigenous people" doesn't sound that nuanced. Sounds dumb.

  • So she's blaming current 'poms' for atrocities caused by their indirect ancestors, when they emigrated/were deported to Australia.
The ancestors she's presumably a direct descendant of.

To be clear: i'm not saying she's wrong, I just don't entirely get where she's coming from. Figuratively and geographically.

EDIT: page refresh fail - wot @itsbruce said, essentially!

  • I’ve dived into an excerpt of a Facebook discussion which I know nothing about (who are Sally and Alton?), my immediate interpretation of the cut and paste was “yeah, of course we did”; being the first settlers there, we can take credit for all the good and bad since, can’t we?

Which to me, a Brit with zero Aussie heritage, was pretty easy to conclude.

But now I can see the confusion within the statement if Sally is of Australian persuasion.

  • Oh god, was this part of the selection process and we'll be tracked down and press-ganged into the Navy?

Depends on their views on tyre pressures.

  • Top punning in the comments though.

  • @itsbruce The coffee was clearly an excuse to use the free wifi.

  • I've seen that shared in a tongue in cheek way but never in the way suggested here - were there actually any examples?

  • gotta be faek. no one is that stupid.

  • Not sure if epic fail or epic scammers.

Just got my last Thames Water bill. I'm in credit. It says, twice, in a large font: "No action is needed, this bill is for information" (in this case, it is also in a green box, in the middle of the page, presented in a way which is distinct from the rest of the document) and then "This bill is for information only. There is no amount due" (in this case in blue text, and near the end of the document, with only some smaller - fine print-ish looking text - below it).

One would assume they'll take care of a refund. However, in the small(er) print below the last "information only" line, it states: "Your account is in credit. To obtain a refund please phone ... blah blah blah).

    Bunch of chancers, I reckon.

  • Same with British Gas, they hold credit and apply it to the next bill instead of directly refunding

  • There is no next bill. I'm leaving the Thames Water area.

Also, I'm not entirely sure of this - every time you move with Thames Water they start a new account (with a new account number). I know because this was an issue recently when I was trying to close my account using an old statement ("This account is already closed.").
