Completely leftfield suggestion
Whatever track hub you like + White Industries freewheel (just look after it! It will be fine!)
Force 22 cranks
Selection of Direct Mount chainrings\leftfield suggestion

Profile Racing do what you're after I think?
-
• #29
Yeah but many many £

I've already suggested dxr/shimano bmx race hubs and profile racing stuff. Those suntours look like most sensible option for the price. Plus the flanges look ace!

Alternatively, you get could you could get a flip-flop track hub and put two different size single speed freewheels on it.
Are these freehub/cog systens that much better than say, a Halo Clickster? Genuine question.

This is what I've done. 18t profile elite freewheel one side and a WI 20 and 22 double freewheel the other.
Chain line isn't an issue. Only thing is changing pad position when changing between the extremes.
And it costs a bomb but profile freewheel could be replaced for a clickster at a much lower price -

More weight. You want the overall bike to be as light as possible.
I have never had a happy freewheel experience.
My novatec disc cx wheelset on the other hand has lasted 4-5 years and has only had new bearings ones with at least three full cx seasons. = I have a lot of faith in this novatec hack :) -

Looking forward to seeing this, was very tempted to take it off your hands when it was in classifieds!

Yeah I decided that it was too cheap in the end. It is much more worth for me to keep it as my back-up cross bike.
I am working on brazing a steel disc cx frame with gears. But even if I throw all my money at that I am not going to be getting it as light weight asthe Tricross. Plus riding single speed + rim brakes is as trouble free as muddy cross can get. And I feel like I get to do far more races during a season if I have to spend less time cleaning and fixing shit. -

Worth considering the Kinlin XR22t or the XR31t rims too. Really wide (maybe too wide for some frames), pretty light (415 grams for the XR22t), offset available for the rear and not terrible value.

Thanks. They both look really nice. I am swapping a bit of tube bending for some trade price purchases and wheel building, so it also depends on what I can get hold of from my source :-)

You've been lurking too much in the DBAD thread.
-
• #39
Yeah, that makes sense. I just thought I'd offer the lazy and unimaginative perspective.
Good luck, I've always liked these frames, it looks like you're doing it right.

I built my gf a pair of wheels with the xr22t - they were super easy to build and have been brilliant

• #41
Thanks Fred. I'll look into those then

The best from my parts bin:
I will use the 3T Arx i think:

You want some pre-scuffed carbon SRAM levers for this?
-
• #44
Thanks mate. I have actually already been offered Sram S900 levers twice before your kind suggestion. I am sticking with TRP RRL because they have built in quick releases which will probably come in handy when conditions get muddy. I am using TRP CX8.4 and supposedly they lack mud clearance.
I am adding up weights and prices in a spreadsheet. Overall aim is to have the lightest possible sscx at a budget.
I am currently struggling to believe I am going to get under 7 kg. What can save me is that my estimates for frame and forks are wrong. But I still need to ad cables+housing, cog, chain, chainring, bolts, bartape and headset.

spendy?

750 is quite a lot for the fork. You don't fancy finding a ~450g cross fork?
-
• #47
Why the change of heart with the seatpost? I thought your previous close call had put you off carbon?
-
• #48
Yeah but I haven't so far. I am also not sure what the actual weight is of the kinesis forks. It is full carbon but it didn't seem that light. They are of to get painted with the frame so I can't weigh then just now.
I have been offered a pair of Whiskey canti forks at £230, but I can't justify that with all other ongoing projects I have and as this is my "beater cx" it doesn't make sense. -
• #49
I have not had any close encounters with carbon posts.
I have Zipp seatpost I might use instead but this is lighter and can still be shortened.
I will check flex and get a feel for durability when bike is build. -

£40 posted? PM me if you want pics, I'll dig them out
Just found a pic of the 120mm SunXCD hub you linked (no pic of the shorter one in your link)

Looks great.
