what tubing are you using? mild steel?
are you using a tube bender or heat to get the bends?
ps looks great
-
• #10
yes mild steel 10x0.8mm ,
and home made tube bender with 3 round pulley systemplanning in near future to get pulleys for 8mm and make few racks from stainless steel

its not very representable, but really similar to this
-
• #13
Cool! Did you machine the pullies or buy them?
Sorry for all the questions, do a lot of fab myself and would like to make racks also

bought it from ebay, but seller sold out and didn't respond yet for 8 mm

Nice work, I love seeing others idea of the perfect rack!
I'm sure you know what you're doing, but that platform rack looks very large for a mounting point on the canti bosses. Would it nok make it more secure by pointing the stays to the low rider position on the fork blades? Whats the reason for choosing the canti bosses? -

well that rack is 29cm square, so wouldn't say its really big platform.
plus rack has mounts not only to cantilevers but also to center hole in fork crown that holds platform from deformation to the front. I just wanted to try this concept and was also thinking will it be strong and rigid enough, but in final result have to say its stiffer then i thought. plus it looks better. it wont hold sitting person weight, but will hold easily up to 10kg
thanks for comment! Its really great try to make a bit different racks and test how they works, have few more ideas for rear racks

awesome. please put me down for two if you ever start selling them

Solid work. Subbed

yesterday took rack from painters and its already on cyclocross,
It looks like there are not many choices then you need front rack for cantilever and qr mounts, then you don't have eyelets or fork crown hole, so for light touring it will be great, weight limit will be because of carbon fork, not because of rack construction

Great work, can't wait to see more!
Well i thought it will be better to make a thread, and not post photos in all touring topics in the forum
i am very thankfull for lfgss for showing many projects of proper touring rigs and great bikes and of course bike porn thread, and all those things had impact to my bicycle taste. this year started to weld with TIG and made for myself and friends some racks. I will post those racks here and also at the moment have few project bikes for other people, so update their status also
feel free to give advice or comment
so lets start with one I made for friends Affinity low
