Ooooh

Eh?
Look, we aren't a traditional cycling club. That's why we didn't call it a club. Collective was another way of describing a group of people with a shared interests.
See you guys out on the road at some point!

Yes, that's another way to look at it. Interesting thread on it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/2pjqha/eli5_why_do_we_refer_inanimate_objects_as_she/ Guess it's down to personal interpretation at the end of the day.
If you are quoting *fucking Reddit* to waive away accusations of sexism then you seriously, seriously need to go on some kind of awareness course.

Wasn't waiving it away or basing my whole view on that one URL, just showing that it's open to interpretation that using a female pronoun to describe something may or may not be seen as sexist.

You aren't a traditional collective either, was my point, and the language is loaded in a way that seems odd given the proposition.

To be fair it's got a lot better since Rob stepped down to spend time with his BMW...

Forced out by the Volvo breaking plebs, co-op my arse

Is Norths a collective? We have a hill climb, doesn't that practically make us a CC. It on tonight is anyone fancies coming along...

I'm going to lay it out there, I think 99% of people join a club because they have some pathetic need to belong, and to give some meaning to their otherwise banal existence. In that respect EC1, Grupetto, RCC, and any club you care to mention are no different.
Ride by yourself, in what you want, where you want, for as long or as little as you want, for free, for the win.

I joined RCC for free coffee
-
• #1812
I've been wondering, just how much free coffee does one become entitled to...?
-
• #1813
Asking for a friend
-
• #1814
In your opinion.
-
• #1815
at my age I cant go beyond 2 a day
-
• #1816
Not because riding round with RCC stamped on your arse gave you a special glow of belonging?
-
• #1817
So your motto is "do what you want, but if you want to ride with other people you're pathetic".
So friendly.
-
• #1818
Nah - it's a universal truth.
-
• #1819
Nah I dont ride with them, dont think I will, or own any RCC kit .. when I said free coffee I meant it.
Also bike hire and early access to sale.
-
• #1820
Fixed.
-
• #1821
What, that if you are a sociable person then you're a pathetic loser?
Cool.

I've been wondering, just how much free coffee does one become entitled to...?
I start to feel mildly guilty after five on the same day if that helps?
I worked out that RCC membership saved me a couple of hundred quid on coffee per year.

I'm tempted by the free coffee and affordable quality bike rental in a bunch of cities to be honest.
Edit: the only thing stopping me is there's no clubhouse in Dublin for max free coffee intake.

It was a trolly comment in a trolly thread. There are of course benefits to being in a club, but the in-group / out-group stuff is a turn off for me, and that feels like a lot of what we are dealing with here.
In terms of friendliness and sociability, when I post rides up on here I welcome all comers. Any gender, race, class, sexual preference, mode of attire and form of bicycle is welcome.

Me too, although I then met lots of really nice people who I've enjoyed riding bikes with.
That said, if they removed the coffee/bike hire elements or I moved away from a clubhouse, I wouldn't renew.
What defines this as a collective vs a club or group? Seems to me your use of language is underpinned by some sense of social co-operation and inclusivity ...
Despite being a bit voguish and verging on out of touch, in execution it's paradoxical in the corporate context, especially when the product is so overtly means and industry exclusive, with a club-style membership model.
