There's an interesting parallel with Sebastian Gorka here I think.
He wanted, desperately, to be part of the military intelligence community - he was in the Territorial Army as translator, which he then Walter Mitty'd into some sort of "Senior Intelligence Analyst in the Balkan Theatre" entry on his CV.
He tried to join the Hungarian intelligence service and was rebuffed because what he wanted, more than anything, was the job on his CV, whereas what they needed was someone who wanted to strive to make Hungary safer, and the role (any role) was secondary to that.
It's why he fits in so well with the Trump Whitehouse- it's all show, with no idea of what is actually required, no idea of the quid pro quo if you will. No authenticity, ultimately.
A cycling club is normally about cycling -getting more people cycling, enabling those who wish to develop to so do, making it safer, more fun, etc etc. Brixton does this well - in a somewhat disorganised way.
EC1 is about the look, the likes, the kit, the bantz. That's fine, it is what it is - the reason you're drawing fire here is by pretending that it's about cycling, when that's clearly incidental.
Try this simple exercise: replace all the pictures of bikes with a bag of golf clubs on the EC1 site - does that make any difference? Does the site now make more or less sense?
Now try that with a cycling club. Spot the difference.
You could, therefore, actually treat this as a win - you're a members only mens club, bring in other interests that your members share such as golf, football, etc, it won't dilute your brand and will make you more strongly aligned with your members.
