Indeed a puncture fest. A little surprised how many thought it was ok to fix it in the middle of the road. Of who stopped at the side then with back to the edge leant forwards putting their heads around the right level to get clattered by a passing handlebar or knee.

Where can these be purchased?
For a mate, obvs

Yep, those Evans guys must have been pretty bored of puncture repair by the end of the day.
Only saw a couple of spills but saw a lot of St John's ambulance patching up grazes and cuts on the side of the road.

What a genius business idea, how that is worth £5k (we 1:1 with eur yet?) I don't know! But judging by the number of sky kits paired to Pinarello Dogmas with full 9070 (and particular body types) I saw yesterday suggests there's a market.
I did definitely see a guy engage his motor on a beach tyred bike in Wimbledon, he just sat back relaxed and maintained his speed up hill with a grin. -

That hill is so nasty at that stage. It caused Daryl Impey to blow in the pro race!

A mate of mine did this on his Mango SS - 46/18. On Leith hill, he said his cadence hit 28.
Finished it in 4hr50mins with a big old grin on his face. Absolute nutter.

One of my mates cycled from Southampton to Excel centre, then back to Southampton on Saturday, then cycled through the rain in the early hours of Sunday for an 8am start, did Ridelondon and then cycled back home.
I thought he would miss the start, but he managed to make it and did it in about 5h40, which isn't bad considering 270 miles in the 24 hours preceeding it, knowing he had 90 miles to get back home... -

Mike Sheldrake, of TCR & Indy Pac fame did RideLondon 100 before starting LEL.

I bet he was faster than me on RL too. -

Did my first Ride London this year. Definitely a mixed bag - I had an hour sleep the night before due to a particular unfortunate bout of insomnia and early start time, and my new seat clamp wasn't doing it's job very well so the post kept slipping (thankfully a mechanic sorted it around 40 miles in). Basically we ended up stopping more and taking longer breaks due to bike woes and tiredness so our final time wasn't great, but Strava moving time wasn't too bad. I was surprised of how slow it all got on the hills - spent most of them trying to safely pass on the right.
Next time I'll double check my bike (no new parts!) and try to cut the stopping in half.

On my jolly commute in, I infiltrated the route from Walton bridge to Brooklands, and saw no less than 20 upturned bikes. I don't want to invite the fairies, but I have had one puncture in 16months along that stretch, five times a week. What was going on?

Did it on the tandem and saw oodles of punctures both on the way to Stratford and all the way around. I reckon it's a combo of people buying a (budget) new bike when they start training, not replacing the (cheap) tyres throughout whatever training they do and then riding 160k on cheap worn out tyres run at too high a pressure.
That and the rain. -

Awesome. I mean, my mate says awesome.
-
• #2291
Also I reckon statistically it's a normalish amount. If I get a puncture once a year on the way to work thats 1 in 300 chance. Multiple that by 25000 riders and there's going to be a lot of flat tyres.

First one I've done, was pretty good, speaking of punctures, I noticed that the mechanics had long queues but there are loads of people doing it.
The hills were a bit frustrating as loads of people are walking or struggling all over the place, next time I'll put in an earlier time.

Fair point, well made.

I did see a guy on a Halfords special arriving at the top of Leigh hill with two flat tyres looking absolutely dejected. Appparently he'd already fixed them earlier on the ride so @hamrack's theory seems legit

I saw Pinarello f10 duraace di2 with gatorskins...

I was told the South African cricket team had to get the tube to the Oval on Sunday because there hotel was effectively sealed off by the route. Oops.

David Millar called the hill up to Wimbledon village a "false flat" on TV whilst commentating from the moto during the race.
False flat!?

The England team were on the tube as well on the Sunday morning, along with most of the sky commentary team.

I did do shout at the tv when he said that...
