  • Baby Driver was great,
loved the soundtrack and the tape mixing,
Kevin Spacey stole every scene he was in.

  • Castaway. Tom Hanks dies, right? The last bit is just hallucinatory death throes.

  • Saw Enemy last weekend. Good film, last shot was ridiculous though. Left me feeling a bit cheated.

  • I was working on this for a little while... thought it was shaping up to be pretty good as well but heard mixed reviews of the finished film. should go and see it really!

  • wosserface from superavengermens is supposed to be an asian, i think.

  • Dunkirk in IMAX is fucking gorgeous. Zimmers score as well, bloody hell.

  • Im booked in for Thursday. Can't wait...

  • :( going to the cinema is the thing I miss most as a new parent. Could feasibly take it in turns with the other and baby standing outside in the Waterloo underpass but might get social services visit.

So desperate to see in 70mm and not on a fucking laptop though.

  • i can't watch modern war movies. Too much hyper realised violence, historically questionable Big American Feeeeeelings and tacked on, emotionally manipulative "tell... little billy i... love him... urk * " sub plots.

None of which can be found in Dunkirk. Only went to see it because Mrs Hell likes the Tom Hardys, who remains the nations finest eyeball-only actor.

Go watch on the biggest screen you can find, it's amazing.

  • I saw it last night. I have never come out of a movie feeling like I did last night. I was expecting something like saving private ryan, full of loud explosions, americanised over stylised violence and wouldn't have been surprised to see a love story in there too.

It was none of that. The violence was realistic, chaotic, humbling and hard to watch. My friends and I came out of the cinema visibly drained.

+1 for going to see on the biggest screen you can find. There were moments in the plane with Tom Hardy which were oddly...peaceful.

  • Just got out of the 70mm showing of Dunkirk at the BFI imax. So intense.

Planning on seeing it again before the end of the run.

  • Also off to see Dunkirk at IMAX tomorrow. Stoked now.

  • Alien Covenent - dull

Furious 8 - more of the same, too long

Tour De Pharmacy - not sure about using Lance but a good watch with some lol moments

  • Dunkirk
A great piece of cinema, harrowing and heroic, minimal dialogue
the soundtrack interlink with special effects was particularly clever.. Elgar-esque

I wonder whether we'll have a soundtrack for brexit the movie next year..

  • a soundtrack of nails screeching over a blackboard may do for brexit the movie ;)

  • Didn't enjoy Dunkirk.

  • Didn't enjoy Dunkirk.

Solid review. Can't argue with any of your points...

  • it wasn't enjoyable.
    it wasn't entertaining..
    it was however great cinema
    hence why i went alone.

  • Just got tix for the Terminator 2 3D re-release on Aug 29th.

  • Hasta la vista , baby!

  • The American friend - Wim Wenders, based on one of the Ripley books.

A sick frame maker / restorer gets tricked into thinking he's terminally ill by Ripley so that he can serve as a contract killer. Ripley is just using him...or did he really take a liking to him?

I've not read the book, I enjoyed the soundtrack / cinematography (real film with beautiful real colour from dawn and sunset light) overall a good watch.

No I've not seen Dunkirk...not in the mood for a "big" war movie ATM :)

  • No I've not seen Dunkirk...not in the mood for a "big" war movie ATM :)

I don't think Dunkirk is a "big" war movie. It feels much more intimate and small than something like Saving Private Ryan or Pearl Harbour etc.

  • Ghost in the Shell was great... Alien Covenant felt a bit of a cop out, kind of killed the whole Alien universe for me... Boring, predictable...

Wonder Woman tonight, not expecting much...

  • yeah i liked GiTS as well, it was like that shitshower Lucy but, with less brain chat.

  • despite what I said above. I totally get what you mean.

I felt like it was a little bit too close to real. its not a film to be enjoyed, I think its meant to give you a tiny glimpse of what they felt. I was drained at the end and it played on my mind for days after.
