Can anyone point me in the direction of a nice, black, 1" headset? I have a pearlescent project coming up that needs some black bits...

Stronglight A9 comes in black, has Cartridge bearings, and is very reasonably priced. FSA Orbit X if you dont need threaded.

Which ones? 4, 6, Ultimate? I was going to get Shimano CX70s, but I can't find them in stock anywhere and the 50s don't have the cartridge pad holders

Avid Shorties
the best

Apparently shimano put out a 'tune-up kit' of shims which helped.

Hmm, autocorrect must have played up. '1" Aheadset', please.

Cane Creek 40?
I have a 1" threadless version, can't really fault it.

I believe I even got the older version. Will have a look when back home.

Not bad at all. Think the blue line will come off with a bit of acetone?
In other news:
Put new bars, gear cable and tape on my Arkose. Need a tiny bit of fettling with the mudguards, some flaps, a holder for my Garmin and an indexing.Edit: And I need to trim/shorten the hoses...

TRP revox or avid ultimate.

I was wrong about mine. I had Avid on my former bike but the brakes I was speaking of are "cheap" Tektro RX 5.

No, because it's not paint, it's recessed between the two cups. You can feel it with a fingernail, I think it's some sort of bearing seal. You could probably black it out with some sort of fine marker, though. Tbh, on the bike it's not particularly noticeable.

Alright. Maybe I could Posca it some pastel colour to match the rest...

Ceramic who?
Hexagonal BN? Not as lubricious as WS2 surely?

A Ceramicspeed naming jibe, and also potentially a parodical seatstay sticker :-)
Just PTFE (as dusted on their fancy one) so not even ceramic, ha (frauds!), and probably even less lubricious.
Been playing with and testing wax mixes for a couple of months, and now think I'm happy with the current formula. There's PTFE in there too (among other things); standard Friction Facts recipe, but with a few tweaks.
Next I need to make a 'Squirt Lube' style top-up liquid to help prolong life between reflows and reapplications. Might save time and just buy some Squirt lube, but no DIY = no fun.
Chain is a KMC z510HX.
Cost per treated chain (including chain, excluding time/labour) is probably about £7.50.
lolz
buy some Avid Shorties. I use them on my "vintage" mtb icw LX (classic) levers and it has more than enough braking power. I went on a tour through the Alps with that bike with 20 kilo (+ my 75 kilo) of load and never had an issue.
