• No, not during races. But I'll go to a race and realise after a training lap that I am unfit and course is hilly so I'll need my 21T instead of my 19T. And on my way home from Hog Hill Id like my 17T etc... All of which will be sorted in less than ideal conditions. Plus it will be lighter.
Plus Freewheels suck and are expensive if you want quality.

  • Alternatively, you get could you could get a flip-flop track hub and put two different size single speed freewheels on it.

Are these freehub/cog systens that much better than say, a Halo Clickster? Genuine question.

  • This is what I've done. 18t profile elite freewheel one side and a WI 20 and 22 double freewheel the other.
Chain line isn't an issue. Only thing is changing pad position when changing between the extremes.
And it costs a bomb but profile freewheel could be replaced for a clickster at a much lower price

  • More weight. You want the overall bike to be as light as possible.
I have never had a happy freewheel experience.
My novatec disc cx wheelset on the other hand has lasted 4-5 years and has only had new bearings ones with at least three full cx seasons. = I have a lot of faith in this novatec hack :)
