The chainset have a square/rectangle box with 31 inside. 3x represented the year of production, in this case 1987. Xenon was not available until 1990. Campaga and other manufactures did produce painted chainsets at this time, for some reason it was quite fashionable.
I'll do more digging on the brake calipers, as early stuff was filtered down to lower groupsets. The photos you're showing me are pretty inconclusive. I'll take the blocks of and check the width of the point where the blocks attach to be 100%.
