The etrex 20 does indeed have turn by turn navigation, additionally it can tell the difference between gpx tracks and gpx routes. For on road turn by turn us gpx routes. I usually use a gpx track on mine and follow the big arrow. The arrow points in the direction you need to go, useful when there are no roads.

@TM - those Quad locks actually look pretty good (and i see they are available with waterproof cases) so maybe I'll just get a decent phone and give that a go.
@fussballclub - does this mean that the Etrex 20 has turn by turn sat nav?
