  • The jacket potato shop in old town is great for cheap / easy.

Henderson's in new town for Scottish vegan gastronomy :)

  • Yup, hendersons if def on the cards for a post-tattoo feed up tomorrow

  • Glasgow is unbelievable for vegan food if you have the opportunity to make the trip! I'm there about once a month and seem to try somewhere I've not been before every time.

  • Thanks for the tips.

My mum is from Edinburgh and used to go to Hendersons in her 20s IIRC (she's now 70) and I visited it regularly as a kid. Went last time I was in Edinburgh and was a little disappointed, may have just been a one off, would be keen to hear how you find it.

  • Thanks for the tips.

There is a lot of talk of reduced pain and inflammation, improved energy etc (I don't eat a shit diet now, still eat a lot of veg but eat meat and dairy alongside) Have you noticed any change with how you feel?

  • I feel like I get sick less since I've been vegan. I was vegetarian for 18 years before, the transition was easier than I thought it was going to be. I think the main reason I feel better is that I eat a lot less processed foods and sugar now! I always cooked from scratch at home anyway, but now I eat a lot more homemade snacks/lunches etc, and not the easy access pastries/cakes/sandwiches I used to. (Working in a cafe, taking away the urge to eat leftover pastries at the end of a long day has made the biggest difference I think! heh)

  • anyone got any recommendations for interesting vegan eating out in the blackheath/greenwich area. possibly get in as far as Deptford. but it is for friends who won't be on bikes so no idea how much bus patience they will have.

oliver - surprised not to see you at the Vegan Beer Festival. I got pissed up there on some lovely beers. and ate good food too.

  • Only been vegan since Easter but definitely feel better overall in an albeit pretty undefined way.
My skin is def a whole lot better(psoriasis) and I don't ache so much after work/rides/climbing.
Learning to drink black tea/coffee if a customer offers a brew has been hard as has trying not to feel ill while my colleagues eat pale, undercooked bacon from the caff in the mornings.

  • You can get vegan pie & mash (and dessert pie!!) at the pie shop in Greenwich!

  • Looks great, thank you.

Ha, sorry--annoyingly, I was not in the mood for beer that day at all. The shame. It would have been worth going just for your company!

  • I can second what @mrs_socks says. I've been vegan 12 months now, and my previous chronic back pain that was on/off for 20+ years is gone. Other aches too. I had inner ear problems and tinnitus for years that's all gone.

Recovery is also faster after epic rides, and recovery is much faster at the tops of hills (probably because I am also 8Kg lighter).

Second this. It's done wonders for my riding. Been riding loads less because of other commitments, but climbing has got a lot easier - losing 4kg helps...

One thing that I do find difficult is trying to get enough calories in after a massive ride, when previously I could have just eaten a pizza or something. Just eat tonnes of nuts and seeds at the moment.

  • Yes! I like that a lot of places don't seem to use veganism as a selling point, it's just how it is. Last time I looked at the CCA menu I couldn't even see a mention of 'vegan'. Also, had an amazing tempeh sandwich in Stereo last time I was back, recommended.

  • Have you been to the hug and pint? The food is so good, all vegan, asian inspired and before 7pm its £5 per bowl.

  • Went to 'Good Pizza' earlier on Stoke Newington High Street. They do vegan cheese, really nice. Would deffo go back.

  • Cheap too! I'm clearly in there too often as they now know my order...

  • We drove past yard sale in the truck yesterday, my deeply skeptical colleague was impressed with their cheese after I insisted he give it a whirl.
I'm sure everyone on here has seen this but if not it's a giggle, it was enough to make one colleague seriously question his habits, dunno if it'll change anything but at least it's made him stop and think.

  • Y u no embed? Too tired...

  • I've not yet, friend works there and by all accounts it's great, next time for sure.

  • Thanks for all the feedback, we've cut meat and dairy out at home almost completely (used up a bit of leftover pesto in a salad) and am working on avoiding milk at work, sometimes people make me a cup of tea unrequested but I can't help but drink it. Couple of other little slip ups but I'm not going to chastise myself.

I feel like my aching ankles/feet are definitely improving already, I'm feeling positive and will keep going in this direction. Also enjoying the food, Mrs TM made a banging vegan Thai curry last night.

  • Late response but thought I'd chip in with The Waiting Room in Deptford and the Full Nelson also in Deptford (run by the same ppl). Both are great if you are looking for quick vegan 'junk' food:

  • Anyone have a go to chocolate cake recipe?

    The more indulgent the better!
