  • Wtf. Exploitation no?

  • At best that straddles an ethical line.

  • It's like some undergrad psychology experiment gone wrong

  • like in ghostbusters?

  • Ruined by Patrick Swayze.

  • Chris Boardman has been appointed as the walking and cycling commissioner for Greater Manchester.

  • It's interesting, I wonder how much power he's going to have to alter how people travel in the Croydon of the North?

  • Bolton?

  • When a lorry drove through the barricade, hitting the wheelie bins lined up in its path, protesters jumped on to the vehicle, clinging to the window, while one sat on a bin which was pushed along by the lorry. A man clambered on to the roof of the vehicle but it continued to drive with people throwing bottles at it. Several wheelie bins were set alight at the barricade and a mattress thrown on top of the burning pile sending black smoke spiralling through the air.

  • They should correct this interesting concept/typo
Dozens of people mattresses, wheelie bins, traffic cones and rubbish into the street in Dalston, where Charles died after being chased by police officers

I can hear the helicopter. As no doubt can others. Now broadcasting live from various places quite near the scene.

  • There's a protest tomorrow outside Stoke Newington police station too.

  • I wasn't around at the time, but I'm sure for many it does throw up uncomfortable memories of conflict between the police and the community in past decades.

  • Popbitch is closing

  • I thought it was just the messageboard closing.

  • A good piece on the Charlie Gard story

  • Real anger around me about the death of Rashan Charles, nobody seem to believe that whatever he swallowed killed him (that would have taken much longer, apparently) and people have seen CCTV not released by the police which shows a plainclothes policeman jumping on him as well as the uniformed officer in the official. I've not seen this, can't find it, no idea if it's real or even exists but that's what locals are saying.

Feelings could be summed up as we pay their wages, they work for us, we're fed up of being treated like this.

Probably won't surprise you that I'm not talking about recent white middle class imports into Clapton like me...

  • Nothing like a good bit of violence to protest against violence.

  • Here's the video

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e41QT-m8Jks

The plainclothes police man has turned out to be a member of the public.

  • Awful. Did he hit his head on the base of that fridge when he was brought down?

Then to see him restrained like that is sickening.

  • Quite right too. He was basically asking to be killed by waking slowly in a shop aisle like that.

  • It's sad this young guy has died but I've seen the footage and I'm struggling to see what the police officer has done wrong. The guy is clearly resisting arrest and it doesn't look like excessive force is being used.

  • I don't really know what happened, because it's not clear from the footage. However, the police are expected to carry out restraint safely, and for whatever reason this clearly didn't happen here. It may have been that he hit his head or some other reason, and we won't know until/if an enquiry establishes the facts, but the charge against the officer, and the cause of people's anger, was that the person restrained wasn't kept safe during the procedure.
