@dammit if your serious about a DS do some reading on the correct behavior of the hydraulics. Think there a specific timing to the rise and fall of the suspension and some clicking of the regulator that can be counted. There's some really good knowledge over at aussiefrogs.com
As far as parts go there's a large community dedicated to keeping them going.

Neither route feels like value, though.
I'm really confused by this whole chat.
If anyone is after a "value" car and they don't do a decent amount of mileage, they they should download the Uber app and buy a zipcar/similar subscription.
If you drive enough miles to warrant the cost of owning a car and are happy to keep it serviced then you should spend a couple of grand on a small engined Toyota Auris with plenty of life in the tyres and drive it into the ground. If you can't be bothered just get a 2-3yr lease for c.£100 p/m.
There is nothing good value about cars.

@hoops thanks for the extra convincing about rattle cans.
Actually been considering Plasti dip but it seems like a waste. Will just keep what's left of the paint and have a genuine ratty paint job.

Was going to suggest wrapping of some sort. It depends what your aim is though.
If it were me I'd have a crack at refinishing the roof, then leave or wrap.

True, I could go authentic carbon wrap on the roof and bonnet for an extra 25 kilowatts.

Used car market in the UK/Euro is taking an evermore downward spiral.
Only new car I ever had was a company car A3 and handed it back over the mileage limit, a fair bit over, cost me a lot, won't be having another! -

Guys, looking to get an impreza - ideally a 2dr import. What are the most established UK impreza sites/forums for research? Been googling and nothing seems to be that active/up to date?

There was cardboard under splitter when painting. Surprisingly small amount of shit in it. I don't expect that to be the case for the lacquer...

Painted in the open air?

Apart from the fact outside in a dirty yard, ignoring that, why not spend the 2.3 minutes it takes to remove the headlights, indicators and do it properly? Bumper is only held on by 2 large easily accessible bolts and about 6 pop rivets, and again raises the chance of it coming out well. Getting the details right takes the eye away from the imperfect finish that will be achieved by doing it that way*
*I know because I'm forced to do all my jobs in my endz**
**which is the dustiest, wettest, windiest, not flat almost impossible to jack a car on, whingey neighbor, seagull shit infested endz in the whole of Scotland.
***V70R saffron yellow all the way. Only colour the V70r really works in, maybe that laser blue but they are super rare now.
