• Generally they're looked at as fairly reliable, especially as they are a closed off system. Although you can repair cable brakes by the roadside, the chances of a mechanical happening in the first place is higher. Hydraulics are also self-adjusting so you don't need to play around with pad adjustment every couple of days.

    An added bonus is the light-action lever of hydros (think long alpine descents when you're already knackered).

    Of course, Kristoff doesn't even use discs...
