Ah, I have seen Breaking away- ages ago now though. I thought it was a reference to Stonecutter court, but that's EC4. Also there is, as you point out, no way that the EC1 bunch could draw a parallel between themselves and the group in the film, without scoring a full 10 on the Morissette scale.
