  • Ah right cool, can always put something else on the front I guess - I'll gamble and order them! Quite excited about this build, I do a lot of track riding but this is my first fixed bike for the road.

  • That thing is sick!
doesnt it feel long with a 60cm+(?) toptube and a 130 stem!?
What frame is it btw, just noticed the headtube looks like 1-1/8"

  • Dolan made a mistake with my Pre-Cursa and sent it out in Grass Track spec with 32mm cross tyres and the road fork at the front, so the back can definitely fit 28 and the front can too as long as you order the road fork (rather than the straight blade track one). Hope this helps.

  • It's a 19" MTB frame (Repainted 1994 Raleigh M-Trax) with a 130mm stem. The bike is a bit small for me, but it works ok :) I love that bike a lot but it's rusting like crazy and the tensioner annoys me both visually and occasionally breaks. I figured fixed would be fun, probably about 72" I'm going for. I live in North Yorkshire so need something that can get up the hills - I'll be avoiding Rosedale Chimney mind you!

I'm not really fussy or technically minded so I just bodge stuff so that it works :P

  • So I started the assemble the bike... I can't get the front wheel (Mavic Ellipse) on because the track nuts hit those little "lawyer tabs". Tried a few different sets of track nuts from different wheels but always the same issue. Am I missing something, how do I make this work?

  • The lawyer lips are for quick release axles, if you want to use track nuts you'll need to get the file out!

  • Photo? No issue with lawyer lips on mine using track nuts from Miche and Weldtite.

  • No issue with weldtite track nuts and the Dolan road fork fitted to the FXE.

  • Classic case of needing to file 'em.

  • Not sure if you can see the problem here...
I'll get the file out, seems weird the track fork has these!

  • Looking to join the Dolan club. Read most of this thread but still not sure whether I should go for a 56 or 58. I'm 6ft 2 and I have an 88cm inseam.

Most of the opinion is to size down right? Pre Cursa's are long and low etc. So that would be the 56. My only concern with going for the 56 is I have a pretty bad back and neck at times and worry that the increased saddle to bar drop would be more uncomfortable than a 58 could be.

But as I'm going to build it up with a positive stem and risers anyway maybe I'd be ok with the 56?

I know it's the most boring of questions but decide for me will you? :)

  • sizing down looks more rad and pro too.

I have a 54 and im 5'11". I have a feeling the semi compact geo on the new frames brings the headtube up, so all again for sizing down.

on the other hand my inseam is 81cm and im already sporting 185mm of exposed seatpost (a shade under 20cm to saddle surface) so with only 2cm more seattube it might look out of place with crazy long seatpost.

so judging from that ild go 58.

  • but yeah risers could size down. im running it with drops and would slam and -17degree 120mm stem with risers.

is that conflicted advice any good for you?!;)

  • Haha, thank you!

    So it's either 56 or 58 then ;)

  • I'm 6ft and ride a 58 with track drops and 100mm stem. Personally I'd advise the 58 (especially if you've got a bad back) means you can slam the stem too :)

  • 58 if bad back

  • Anyone selling a 60cm gun metal grey Pre Cursa (frame only)?

I've got an old style white PC at the moment and I'm not a fan.

  • Thanks @Miitch and @Thuekr, I think I'll let my back call the shots and go for the 58.

I'll post some pictures once I get started with the build.

  • How's yours looking? Did you manage to get some big tyres on there in the end?

  • I've been out riding mine a bit lately, still trying to get used to riding fixed on the roads. So far so good although going downhill can be somewhat alarming - I was doing 170rpm the other day!

Oh and (I suppose as a consequence on bouncing around going down hill) I'm finding it less comfortable saddle-wise :-P Here is my bike, the chainset is being replaced with a Miche Pistard Air and a black Zen so it should look better when I fit that I think :)

  • Here's your standard "level your saddle" comment

  • Is that a Super S-cubic Zen? On a £99 frameset?

  • I think it's just the angle of the picture - the sofa back is horizontal.
