I'm much more happy suffering though the forest undisturbed.

Fuck 'em, don't let it, neither is a proper cycling club.
EC1 can't enter proper races due to its membership criteria and RCC was conceived purely as a vehicle for selling more expensive clothing to people who are easily swayed by marketing.
The people who join are bigger idiots than those that don't. If they feel the need to pay £xxx to make them feel part of something, or to feel superior, more fool them. -

This whole RCC vs EC1 thing has diluted the conversation completely. But that's internet.
IMO RCC although a 'paid' club is a bit more democratic (Vibrant? Diverse?) than EC1. And shouldn't be used in same sentence as EC1.
No point demonising marketing living in a western society, its the only job left to do in Brexit Britain.

Yeah, RCC has it's target, but it offers something in return, discounts, regular led rides, etc. It also provides gainful employment for many.
-
• #1456
The RCC is a more legit club than most.
-
• #1457
A club is only as good as the members it attracts
-
• #1458
Although we should agree what things make a club legitimate.

Most micro CCs or most cycling clubs full stop?
-
• #1460
Does anyone think that Clapham Chasers, Peckham CC or LFGSS CC are legit clubs?
Where's their club 10, organised road race, club runs, hill climb, youth development squad, annual awards dinner, etc...
-
• #1461
Most clubs. Period.

Custom kit and an internet presence.

LFGSS CC
club 10, organised road race, club runs, hill climb
We should do this
-
• #1465
Clapham Chasers (I'm a member) are a running/triathlon club first and foremost. They do club runs and have an awards evening, as well as organising running races (and possibly a triathlon - not 100% sure).

What is this running you speak of
-
• #1467
nunpunchers CC 4lyf

Arguing the toss about the legitimacy of clubs is reductive, it'll only prove the fact we should all join VCL or Twickenham.
There's a place for the EC1 if they stop acting like entitled, elitist, capitalist pigs.
-
• #1469
I think Chris Froome does it

There's a place for the EC1 if they stop acting like entitled, elitist, capitalist pigs.
So have they dropped their "pre-vetting" vom process for new members now? Is it now open to people other than "high-net-worth individuals" retch?
Those terms no longer appear on their site.
-
• #1471
That question is open to all, btw
-
• #1472
We should all try and join and find out.
-
• #1473
hanging from the gallows?

I'm a member of an Amateur team and also about to join the RCC (Perks). Any club that organizes a race, helps bring women into cycling or generally advance the sport is sound. Any club that centres it's proposition around flaunting wealth can go fuck itself. (Though if they organize a race I might let them off)

Cue @Señor_Bear joining EC1 "Accidentally" to see if it worked
What bothers me about EC1 and RCC is the sense they give off as being somehow above cycling clubs with their arcane rules, club 10s and treasurer elections.
