  • But do they force domestiques to work themselves to the bone, far beyond a level where one can reasonably recuperate between efforts? I.e. could that be the reason why Kiryienka looks like a chain smoking smackhead?

  • It's posts like this that caused Brexit.

  • Kiri's just a monster that's been resurrected in some kind of occult ritual from the site of a Stalinist-era mass grave in Belarus and has to consume vast amounts of pain and lactic acid to stay alive.

I don't know if you could say the same about Betancur's efforts on behalf of Quintana. He just looks like he's been resurrected out of a Weight Watchers fat-camp and is lining his nest before flitting back home to live out his days soaking in a big hot tub filled with hot chocolate for his churros.

  • shhh. I'm a try-hard gonzoist apparently, so that's enough of that talk or lips will be pursed and toys ejected from pram.

  • Who was the last winner of a Giro/Vuelta double and given the spacing why don't more people attempt it? Difficult to keep form up for so long?

  • Contador '08

I think what you described there is just being a pro cyclist. Because you or I would consider anything less than two weeks beech holiday insufficient recuperation between efforts.

  • Off to look for a highlight reel of Kiriyenka, crushing people implacably.

  • Every jersey winner and I believe every stage winner in 2017 was on a Shimano groupset? Movistar, Katusha, UAE, Lotto Soudal, Fortuneo all won nothing.

Lance Armstrong rode on a Shimano.

    Reason enough not to.

  • Personal favourite moment, Kwiato chucking his sunnies at the floor and the trackstanding on the mountain. Need GIF.

  • Then his tweet the next morning when he'd discovered that was his last pair of that style.

Thankfully Oakley's rep was in the ball and got a new pair to him before the start of the stage.

A cynic would think this an Oakley marketing ploy, luckily I'm not so cynical.

  • None of the fans at the roadside seem to get on to the throw either. Not even a gallic shrug.

  • marketing ploy as in, "look, our gegs are so annoying riders throw them in the gutter half way through a stage"?

  • My initial thought was along the lines of he's better off without those hideous gegs. But then maybe I'm not Oakley's target market.

  • I obviously am. massive moonface= massive gegs

  • Next years route has (possibly*) been possibly leaked already...

    *I haven't checked the pixels...

  • Having checked the pixels - the spelling mistake in Carpentras suggests this is FAKE NEWS! Sad!
