I can't believe 105 was way better than the top of the line Super Record.
The Golden Arrow 105 was better than Super Record, and 1050 was better again. By the mid 80s, Campag had fallen far behind the Japanese, because the basic designs hadn't changed in at least 20 years.
Yes, night and day. Pre-Synchro Campag was shit for changing gear, 1050 actually had indexing which worked well. In fact, even the Suntour VX was a vastly superior rear dérailleur to pre-Synchro Campag, and SIS (IIRC, 1050 was the first 105 generation with SIS) stole the good Suntour geometry and added indexing which was another great leap forward.
My comment about 20th Century was just to eliminate the latest re-use of the Super Record brand by Campag.
